I took the Iceberg Quest Ocean Tours boat tour in August. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and shared a lot of interesting local information. Luca was great! It was an amazing way to experience the Twillingate coast.
No whales at all. The captain not even intended to look for whales. We were out of season. The problem is that we were told so during the trip. Not when we booked. The advertising should have been: “Coastal promenade & Birds tour”. We made 3 trips: 2 with Ocean Quest (St. John’s & Twillingate) and one with a company of Cape Bonavista. No whales anywhere. Tour were made from 13th to 17 August. A great disappointment. It should be said that whales in Newfoundland come from June to end of July maximum. People were very kind, anyway. That’s a fact.
Although we didn’t see any icebergs, the whales put on a great show for us! Would book again next time we’re in Twillingate.
We had booked for 9:30 AM, there probably weren't many passengers so they pushed the cruise back to 1:30 PM, claiming the weather was not favorable. It wasn't any better at 1:30 PM but we left. We didn't see any icebergs, I imagine it's too late in the season (August), and we didn't see any whales. As best they could, they showed us seabirds (gulls, an eagle's nest, a baby osprey) and a lot of rocks. They aren't lacking any. Nothing too spectacular for a $300 cruise for 2.
The staff were excellent. We had a great time. We were lucky enough to see whales. It was a perfect day.
We had a great time with Captain Barry, who found us a beautiful Fin whale to watch, Gillian who showed us all how to play an ugly stick, and Gary the bartender who screeched us in with a fun spiel which included a sou'wester, stuffed cod and newfie slang. Best crew ever!!! Would highly recommend doing this in Twillingate.
Good experience even though we did not see whales or icebergs.
This was an amazing tour. It was on my bucket list to get close to an iceberg and this trip did not disappoint. There was a large iceberg nestled in a cove which took about an hour to reach on the boat. There was lots of opportunities to get amazing pictures. I would caution people that are prone to motion sickness to definitely take medication for motion sickness as it was quite rough. Totally worth it though.
Slow boat doesn’t cover much area. Better off finding a zodiac if you can handle one. Did a zodiac tour which wasn’t as comfortable but saw whales. I know it’s luck of the draw but …..
Great crew, were not able to see any marine life. Not their fault but sadly expensive and disappointing.
