HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! We are a mother and daughter from USA who had never been to Peru before and found Discover Pachamama Tours online. We had just a fantastic experience on our 2-day “Short Inka Trail” hike, led by Marisole of Discover Pachamama tours! Marisole is an experienced mountain guide in Peru and very knowledgeable about the Inka trail system, history, geology, and biology of the area. This historic rock trail is very steep at times, with unique and incredible views of Machu Picchu and the surrounding area. By doing this tour, we entered the ancient citadel through the magical Sun Gate and into Circuit #1. Marisole was organized, patient, kind, and encouraging, which made for a rewarding and fantastic experience. The included lunch and dinner was delicious. We also enjoyed the stop at a women’s weaving collectivo where we learned about alpaca yarn, natural dyes, and economic traditions led by Peruvian women for centuries - and stocked up on quality handmade items for family gifts. Jose was super responsive when I initially contacted him and he arranged this tour for us - it could not have been more perfect. It was obvious that both Jose and Marisole are very well connected in the tour community there. We had so much fun on the 2-day Inka Trail hike that we booked a subsequent Cuzco City tour with Discover Pachamama! BTW- There are a LOT of tour operators working in Cusco, Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu but many are really NOT especially qualified to handle backcountry issues that can arise (altitude, temperature swings, trail injuries). We were in very capable hands with Discover Pachamama!
Marizol was such a great company! She is patient, Kind, and she goes with the traveler’s Flow. We did the 2 days Inca Trail, which was a 7h walk to the Macchu Pichu (it is quite intense to climb up there!) and Marizol was adapting her rythm to ours without ever stressing us. Plus, she knows a lot of things and she takes the time to stop and explain really interesting facts. The day after, we went on the Macchu Pichu site and Marizol took us around all of it. Once again, it was very interesting and not too long or not too short. I would definitely recommend choosing her as a guide!!
