Bereid je voor om het oude Japan te voet te ervaren met deze spannende wandeling door traditionele poststeden, eeuwenoude bossen en dramatische bergpassen. Beginnend in de poststad Tsumago-juku, zal je gids een beetje uitleggen over wat voor soort mensen de wegen in het oude Japan bereisden, waar ze naartoe gingen en hoe ze leefden. Je krijgt de kans om enkele gebouwen binnen te gaan, waaronder een oude herberg en een paardenstal die perfect illustreren wat je gids heeft genoemd. Als je de poststad Tsumago-juku verlaat, begin je aan een tocht van 8 km naar de volgende poststad, langs brullende watervallen en stille gehuchten. Houd een oogje open voor wilde dieren en wilde bloemen terwijl je wordt geleid door je gids langs wat ooit een van de belangrijkste wegen van reizen in Japan was. Aangekomen in de poststad Magome-juku, wordt u getrakteerd op verre uitzichten op velden en bergen terwijl u afdaalt naar de bodem van dit zeer verticale dorp. Na wat tijd om te winkelen, stapt u aan boord van het tourvoertuig en gaat u terug.

Onze tour begint pas echt wanneer jij en je gids uit de bus stappen bij Tsumago-juku Post Town. Ooit een vitaal station op een weg die Tokyo (toen Edo geheten) en Kyoto met elkaar verbond, is het uiterlijk van de stad sinds haar hoogtijdagen niet veranderd. Hier vindt u straten met traditionele houten gebouwen die zorgvuldig bewaard zijn gebleven door hun bewoners. Sommige gebouwen zijn open om binnen te gaan en laten je zien hoe mensen vroeger in het oude Japan reisden.
Vanuit Tsumago begint de Nakasendo Trail-trektocht. Met een totale lengte van ongeveer 8 km is dit parcours een must-see voor mensen die een buitenervaring willen combineren met een culturele ervaring. Onderweg wordt u getrakteerd op adembenemende watervallen, schilderachtige gehuchten en dramatische uitzichten op de bergen. Het pad beslaat een breed scala aan hoogteverschillen, dus bereid je voor om je benen te gebruiken en je bloed te laten stromen. Je gids zal er zijn om ervoor te zorgen dat je niet verdwaalt, en om de ervaring te verbeteren met actuele anekdotes en deskundige trivia over de bezienswaardigheden die je onderweg zult zien.
Met de 8 km lange Nakasendo-trektocht kom je aan in Magome-juku, een andere geweldige stad op de Nakasendo Trail. Deze stad, meer verticaal dan Tsumago-juku, ligt op een steile heuvel en biedt uitzicht over de daken van gebouwen onder je en op de vlakte die aan de voet van het dorp ligt. Er zijn enkele cadeauwinkels en plekken om een snelle snack te eten, en je gids geeft je de kans om deze etablissementen in je eigen tempo te bekijken.

Nagano : De pick-up op Nagano Station is in Nagano Station voor het informatiebord recht tegenover de bullet train exit gates om 08:15 Het opstappunt is buiten de westelijke uitgang van Matsumoto Station om 9:45, onderaan de roltrap. Alissa and Taka were amazing! We learned so much from them. We're not really tour people, and while we love hiking anyway, I think this experience is much better getting all the history and interesting information about the trail. Also the group size is pretty small which is really nice. Also Alissa and Taka found us as the meet up point right away, so that part was super easy.

Our experience was excellent. Alissa is extremely knowledgeable and clearly pointed out landmarks in such a way that we could enjoy them. She’s a delightful person who appealed to every one of our party, schoolteacher, professor and journalist. She answered all of our sometimes pesky questions. She respectfully kept us safe, moving along, and on time. Alissa is well connected to the social structure of the community. She knew the residents, shopkeepers and caretakers. Taka was an excellent presence as well, answering general questions about the prefecture and Japanese history and was a delight to be with. We’ve taken two other tours through TripAdvisor, in Australia and Portugal. This was even more fun than the others and we will definitely look for opportunities to book again.

This is truly a beautiful hike and Dillon really knew some interesting facts about the Nakasendo Trail. I absolutely loved this trip. You should be able to walk 5 miles and there are uphills and downhills to contend with. There’s a bathroom halfway and bathrooms at the beginning and end. Highly recommend hike for people in good health.
This is our second time to participate in the Chinese mountain road, from wife cage to horse cage along the beautiful landscape. Our guide this time was Jake, who very carefully and professionally explained the sights along the way. We love Jake's affinity.
It was a wonderful tour! Alissa was knowledgeable and provided a lot of historical and cultural context that would have eluded us otherwise. She was also attentive throughout the tour and was mindful of our pace, especially during the more challenging sections of the trail. Our driver Nishi-san was also friendly and warm.
Dillon was great. Highly recommend this trip for those that enjoy hiking and history. While you can do this own your own, public transit isn’t easy in this area and the guided tour made it much easier, relaxing, and enjoyable.

Lovely walk from Tsumago to Magome with our congenial group of 12 + our guide Kieron. I enjoyed stopping for snacks and sights at the start and end. Long drive to get there, but worth it to experience part of the Nakasendo trail.
