Tre fosse di terracotta sono state scavate e sono aperte al pubblico. Si ritiene che la fossa 1, la più grande, contenga 6.000 guerrieri di terracotta (solo 2.000 sono esposti) e i loro cavalli da guerra. Questi guerrieri sono a grandezza naturale, rivolti a est e disposti in formazione di battaglia. Particolarmente sorprendente è l'unicità di ogni guerriero. La fossa 2, più piccola della fossa 1, contiene circa 1.300 guerrieri di terracotta ed è ancora in fase di scavo. In particolare, i generali, i soldati a cavallo e i soldati inginocchiati sono nuovi in questa fossa. La fossa 3, la più piccola (rappresentata dal museo e dal cinema 3D), contiene 72 guerrieri di terracotta e si ritiene che servisse come quartier generale militare dell'epoca, a causa dei numerosi generali di alta classificazione portati alla luce.
