Be ready for crowds and standing. It was also quite hot. Overall Elise was a fantastic guide who offered us cold packs that really made the heat more bearable. She provided a very educational tour!
This was one of the highlights of our trip to China despite the very large crowds. It is indeed one of the most fascinating places in China. Julia, our guide, was absolutely amazing in guiding us through the crowds and super nice with us and the children. We could not have asked for better.
We weren't quite sure what to expect, but this trip blew us away. Julia, our guide, was so friendly and knowledgeable, she really brought to life the history and story behind the Terracotta Warriors and the amazing Emporer that united China 2000 years ago. Julia went at our pace, she knew all the shortcuts and although she has done this job for a long time, her passion and knowledge on the subject, coupled with her excitement at the new elements being discovered, meant the tour was fresh and fascinating. I would highly recommend this tour, thank you so much Julia!
Pros: On-time pick-up, a tour guide with exceptional knowledge, and hassle-free entry to the exhibition. Mixed experience: The tour followed more of a "Chinese-style" approach to sightseeing, meaning the goal seemed to be to get through everything as quickly as possible. We only visited about half of Pit 1 before having to convince the guide to go back so we could see the rest. Many European travelers prefer to spend some time at a site, look around, take in the atmosphere, and learn about what they're seeing rather than rushing through it. The stop at the "Farmer's Market" after visiting the Terracotta Warriors felt like walking through a duty-free shop at an airport—you simply have to pass through it. Since this stop is not highlighted as part of the tour in the description, we were surprised by how much emphasis seemed to be placed on it. At times, we had the impression that it was more important to the guide than the Terracotta Warriors themselves. Overall: This tour is a great option if you want to visit this impressive site without having to worry about tickets or transportation. However, I strongly recommend discussing with your guide at the beginning how you would like to explore the exhibition. Otherwise, you may find yourself back outside after just 20 minutes. That's why I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars. It was a good tour, but not the perfect private tour we had expected.
This was absolutely worth the money. Julia, our guide, picked us up at our hotel. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and her English was perfect! She knew soooo much about the warriors; my family and I agreed that we would not have been able to get all of the story or information that Julia provided just going by ourselves. She answered all of Chinese culture questions and was incredibly welcoming. It is something you HAVE to experience!
Rosa is an excellent guide. She is very knowledgeable and speaks great English. It was very crowed and very hot on the day of our tour, and she is very patient. She also helped us book tickets to a nighttime show.
This tour is run by Catherine Lu tours, and they are an extremely professional outfit. The communication was great, pickup was perfect, and our guide Julia was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and articulate, and made the whole experience even more memorable than it would have been otherwise. I can’t imagine coming to visit the Terracotta Warriors without a guide, and I can honestly say that our guide, and her company were 5 star in all respects. Highly recommended.
We were so lucky to have a Guide in Rena, her English was very good her knowledge was excellent with a lovely personality, my wife and I were so lucky to be guided by her to the viewing of the Terracotta Warriors. The Icing on the cake in her arranging to meet the Farmer Yang Gaojian, who discovered the Terracotta Warriors in March 1974. In all a fantastic day so well arranged. A big big thank you to Rena.
We had a terrific morning at the Terracotta Warriors site with our tour guide, Villa. Since the heat was so intense during our trip to Xi’an, we opted to get an early start. Villa and Mr Chow picked us up at our hotel promptly at 7:30 am. During the hour-long drive to the Terracotta Warriors, Villa shared the history of the Qin dynasty, the Emperor, and the Terracotta Army. Throughout the whole visit, he told stories that helped the place come to life for us, and that made the experience really rewarding. Villa also knew the space well and helped us navigate through some very thick crowds to get great photos and see the statues up close. As well, we had fun swapping stories about our favorite American movies (Jaws, Alien, etc)—Villa learned to speak English very well by watching them! All in all, a wonderful experience. Highly recommend it!
Wonderful experience! Our guide was the best ever! She gave us all the inside stories and took our son by the hand thru the crowds, she loves children! The Warriors came to life because of her! Great tour company!
