What a day!! Jo and Liam and the rest of the crew guided us on a spectacular tour of the Salish Sea. The whales were all performing. At one time there were so many we didn’t even know where to look. We saw so many birds, seals and whales. It will definitely be the highlight of our trip.
What a fantastic day! We saw humpbacks, orcas, a bald eagle, a blue heron, so many seals and a couple sea lions. The whales put on a heck of a show today and the guides were so knowledgeable! Excellent day!
Very knowledgeable and professional staff. They took pride and making sure we had whale sightings. I would definitely recommend this company.
Wow, what an amazing experience we had with Eagle Wing Tours. First we cruised south toward Washington and spent about 45 minutes in the vicinity of eleven orcas. They were very active, plying, rolling, flipping their tails, and one youngster breached about ten times in a row! Then we sailed to a remote lighthouse island and watched hundreds of boisterous bellowing sea lions. Lastly we cruised back along the coast and saw a sea otter and bald eagles. A great day!
This was a great tour. From the check in to the ride out to see whales and the staff was fantastic. We were lucky and saw 3 Orcas, Sam the naturalist on the boat was very informed about the whales we saw and the local laws regarding whale watching. If in Victoria BC I highly recommend this boat tour.
I'm so glad that we booked the sunset tour with Eagle Wing! The booking process, check-in, staff, and crew were all fantastic, and I honestly don't have any critical feedback to give. Here are a few things I would want to read/know before booking: - If you are even a little bit of a wimp when it comes to the cold, book the day trip, BUT if sunsets are your thing, book the semi-covered boat. The cabin was large, warm, and comfortable if you needed a few minutes to warm up. I felt so sorry for the other tours we saw on open boats and zodiacs who were getting wrecked by the elements...it was definitely worth the additional $20 for the comfort. -DRESS APPROPRIATELY. Sweaters, long pants, windbreakers, NO baseball hats (they won't survive), and glasses/sunglasses. If needed, tie your hair back. -They kindly offer windbreakers, knit hats, gloves, and blankets to use during the tour. Even though I came somewhat prepared (flannel and rain jacket/windbreaker), I happily used everything provided. They do wash the items in between tours, but if that still gives you the creeps, make sure you are prepared. EVEN in August, it was very chilly on the water...especially when the sun went down. -Don't let the word "sunset" fool you into believing this is like a leisurely, cocktail sipping, watch the sunset dip behind the mountains type of situation. This is a high-speed adventure...wind whipping, wave crashing, whale finding adventure. -With that being said, there are no drinks or snacks on board....so bring water and a snack if necessary. I would eat beforehand (for a couple of reasons): you are less likely to get motion sick if you have food in your stomach, and if you check in early enough, your boarding pass gets you a discount at any of the restaurants at Fisherman's Wharf. -Unfortunately, I am very prone to motion sickness, but I was prepared. I took Dramamine, used motion sickness patches, and wore the wrist bands with the pressure point thing and didn't have any problems at all. IF you are reading this before traveling to Canada, I would recommend bringing these items with you. I couldn't find the wrist bands at all, and the motion sickness patches/pills are much more expensive here (even with the currency conversion). -The CREW was absolutely fantastic! We had Capt Rod, Derek, Hanna, and I believe Kai (I can't remember his name, but a younger guy taking all of the photos). You could tell how much they respect the ocean, land, and all of the animals. They were extremely knowledgeable about Orcas, and I learned so much from all of them. (Also, Derek, I thought your jokes were hilarious, even if it was a tough crowd!) -Eagle Wing Tours are incredibly respectful of the wildlife. We did not chase whales, invade their distance, or disturb them in any way. -We saw TWO Orca brothers...some harbour seals (one was unfortunately a meal), but the highlight was seeing a pod of a mother and two (maybe three) of her babies. They swam right up and under the boat, and the little ones were breaching the water, playing with each other. It was honestly the highlight of the trip, and we almost didn't see it! We were on our way back to the harbor when the Captain got a report and turned around. To me, this was what made me REALLY thankful that we picked Eagle Wing. We had already seen whales, so they didn't have to take us to see the family; they could have called it a day and have been done with us and we wouldn't have known the difference. -Finally, when you get back to the Wharf, know that everything is closed for the evening (even the washrooms). So be prepared! We aren't "tour people," but I'm so glad that we did this. It truly was a once in a lifetime experience and well worth the money.
Thank you so much for such a detailed and thoughtful review! We love that you took the time to share tips for future guests, from what to wear to how to prepare if you're prone to motion sickness. That kind of guidance is incredibly helpful for people booking a tour for the first time. Sounds like a truly incredible experience for your family and we hope to welcome you aboard again sometime, and remember you get 20% off as a return guests! All the best, Tianda
