Il Santuario di Fatima, è un santuario mariano dedicato a Nostra Signora di Fatima, situato nel luogo di Cova da Iria, nella città di Fatima, in Portogallo. Il Santuario di Fatima è, per eccellenza, un luogo di pellegrinaggio cristiano e devozione cattolica, preservando la memoria degli eventi che hanno portato alla sua fondazione, ovvero le apparizioni della Madonna ai tre piccoli pastori - Lúcia dos Santos, Francisco e Jacinta Marto - nel 1917 è anche uno dei santuari mariani più importanti al mondo appartenente alla Chiesa cattolica e la più grande destinazione del turismo religioso internazionale, ricevendo circa sei milioni di visitatori all'anno. Si distinse con tre rose d'oro papale e visitato dai papi Paolo VI (1967), Giovanni Paolo II (1982, 1991 e 2000), Benedetto XVI (2010) e Francisco (2017). La sua costruzione iniziò nel 1919 con la costruzione della Cappella delle Apparizioni.
Il Monastero di Santa Maria da Vitória (meglio conosciuto come il Monastero di Batalha fu costruito nel 1386 dal re João I del Portogallo come ringraziamento alla Vergine Maria per la vittoria contro i rivali castigliani nella battaglia di Aljubarrota. Questo monastero dell'Ordine di San Domenico fu costruito nel corso di due secoli fino al 1563 circa durante il regno di sette re portoghesi, sebbene dal 1388 vivessero lì i primi frati domenicani. Un esempio di architettura gotica, o in stile manuelino, è considerato patrimonio mondiale dall'UNESCO.

Óbidos il borgo medievale - Chi viene a Óbidos deve bere una Ginjinha (dalla ciliegia) in una tazza di cioccolata, che è una delizia. Fu portato ai Mori nel 1148 e ricevette il primo statuto nel 1195 sotto il regno di D. Sancho I. Obidos faceva parte della dote di innumerevoli regine del Portogallo, vale a dire D. Urraca di Castiglia (moglie di D. Afonso II) , Regina Santa Isabel (moglie di D. Dinis), D. Filipa de Lencastre (moglie di D. João I), D. Leonor de Aragão (moglie di D. Duarte), D. Leonor de Avis D. João II), tra gli altri. Nel 1527, c'erano 161 abitanti nel villaggio.

We.had a wonderful day exploring Fátima, Batal, Nazare, and Obidos with Jorge as our guide. He was a wealth of information and very personable! We had a delightful seafood lunch in Nazare and Jorge recommended some authentic Portuguese dishes. We really enjoyed the midevil village of Obidos with its castle walls. We highly recommend this tour!

Our tour guide George was knowledgeable and friendly and had a good sense of humor. We enjoyed our tour which was over the 8 hour allotted time. He was very accommodating to our needs beyond the usual tour program.

I booked a private tour in order to see as much as I could in a short time. I wanted to go to Fátima but had read about long lines and crowds. I was not disappointed George was an excellent guide. He explained the history of the places we visited in detail making me feel as if I were an out of town family member not just another tourist. He was proud of his country and made me want to return and see more of Portugal.

The tour was excellent given by a knowledgeable guide named Jorge Santos. He made our day the. Most memorable of our stay in the Iberian Peninsula. We recommend this tour to truly get to know many facts of Pirtugal's history. The only disappointment was theat we dud not visit Bathla, which was mentioned in our tour confirmation.

Tour was fantastic. Our driver/guide, Pedro, was patient and let us spend as much time as we wanted in the sites we visited. Nonetheless we, as a group, was aware of the time constraints but was pleasantly surprised of not being hurried up to meet a schedule. We can vouch for this tour provider and highly recommend them.
