La storia di Portovenere è lunga e interessante, risalente al I secolo a.C., ma la maggior parte della gente semplicemente la gode per il suo fascino. Le principali attrazioni sono l'imponente chiesa di San Pietro del 13 ° secolo con le sue suggestive strisce bianche e nere e le colorate case a schiera lungo il porto turistico che fanno pensare a Portofino. Gli amanti della letteratura ricorderanno che Lord Byron nuotò attraverso il golfo di La Spezia dalla grotta che da lui prende il nome per visitare Percy Bysshe Shelley nel 1822. Portovenere si è evoluto da comunità di pescatori durante l'epoca romana fino alla base della flotta bizantina dopo la caduta dell'Impero Romano d'Occidente alle porte delle Cinque Terre oggi: una cartolina vivente di un verde lussureggiante terreno contrapposto al mare blu brillante.
Vernazza è forse il più popolare dei paesi delle Cinque Terre. La zona del porto turistico è molto vivace, con molte terrazze dove è possibile gustare un rinfresco o uno spuntino. Probabilmente sarai a Vernazza all'ora di pranzo (dipende dall'orario di raccolta) e ci sono molti buoni ristoranti a base di pesce e l'ottimo vino bianco locale. La strada principale di Vernazza è il luogo ideale per fare shopping o fare una pausa per un gelato (gelato). Per i punti di interesse architettonico c'è il Castello Doria, la fortificazione medievale di Vernazza. Sali sulla Torre del Belvedere per ammirare viste spettacolari (piccola quota di iscrizione). Merita una visita anche la chiesa di Santa Margherita di Antiochia: semplice ma molto bella.
Di tutti i paesi delle Cinque Terre, Corniglia ha mantenuto al meglio il suo aspetto medievale. È l'unico villaggio situato in cima alle scogliere, non raggiungibile in traghetto. Le stradine sono piacevoli da passeggiare e un buon gelato (gelato) si trova a Corniglia. Ci sono alcune chiese adorabili, ma il posto migliore nel villaggio sulla terrazza pubblica con vista panoramica su e giù per la costa.

Sharron was great to work with to book everything. Communications was great and driver was awesome, gave great suggestions of where to visit in each town and easy meet up spot for next town. I really loved that they were able to pick up and drop off at the ship.

Nicoleta was an amazing driver on the tiny, twisting roads of Cinque Terre. She was a wonderful guide. She was very accommodating to our friend with a walker. Even though our friend could not access everything in these towns on hills, Nicoleta made sure that she dropped us off in the flattest, most even areas. Everyone should visit this area. It is among the most beautiful places in the world.

The views were amazing, the cities were beautiful and the driver was engaging. She picked us up at the ship and made every attempt to respond to questions and provided information about Cinque Terre. Nicki helped us find a great place for lunch. Would highly recommend going through Papillon. Sharon at Papillon did a great job advising us and organizing this and other tours through the company.
this trip ,Cinque Terre by Viator, was HORRIBLE.The guide spoke no English.Along the way ,never stopped to allow for time to take pictures.Drove as if he was in a Formula One race.>We cut short our trip and asked to return to our ship, several hours before needed.To charge close to a thousand dollars ,was criminal! I would never recommend this trip, or Viator.Previous trips taken with Viator,were most enjoyable.This was a complete fiascos rip-off
While we empathize with your disappointment, we must point out that you created a problem for yourselves by insisting on visiting villages that were not part of the Easy Cinque Terre itinerary, that your driver also warned you were not advisable for you and your wife. Your claim that the driver spoke no English is simply untrue. You know full well that your driver spoke English because you had several discussions with him about modifying the itinerary, and when you got to Riomaggiore and Manarola, the driver showed you the descent into village that you would have to walk down and back up again, and tried to convince you not to do it. Riomaggiore and Manarola are not part of the Easy Cinque Terre itinerary for a reason. These place were completely inadvisable with respect to the physical condition of your wife but you refused to heed your driver’s advice both times. The driver also discussed visiting Pisa with you as a way to enrich the service with something not physically demanding when you had unnecessarily worn yourselves out in the Cinque Terre, and he took you there. Instead of enjoying the amazing Field of Miracles, you chose to go to the bathroom and then asked to be taken back to the ship. I’m afraid I don’t understand your complaint about not stopping for picture. The place to take pictures is in the Cinque Terre villages, not along the highway as you’re driving there. When you arrived in Portovenere, which is a fantastically scenic place, perfect for taking pictures, you didn't want to even get out of the vehicle. If you didn’t take photos when you were in Riomaggiore, Manarola, and Pisa, that is not our fault. Regarding driving like he was in a Formula One race, perhaps you could provide more details about this. Was the driver going over the speed limit? Was he driving way faster than other vehicles on the highway? I highly doubt the driver was going fast once you got into the Cinque Terre. The narrow, winding roads simply aren’t conducive to speed. I’m sorry you feel you the service was a rip-off, but we cannot be held responsible for your imprudent modification of the agenda. I respectfully submit that if you had let us carry out the service that you booked instead of insisting on inadvisable things that exhausted you, you would have been very pleased with the tour.
The nature the villages are beautiful, we had a fantastic driver David , very professional and knowledgeable. He explained everything to us. He made our trip enjoyable.

Cinque Terra is very beautiful and worth seeing these 5 cities. It is a pity that we hired a guide in Spanish/Portuguese and sent us only a driver who only spoke Italian. Sorry.
Lamento mucho que nuestro servicio no te haya gustado. En nuestra conversación estaba acordado una guía que hablaba castellano. Y de hecho nuestra guía, sí que hablaba el idioma. No estaba contemplada una guía en portugués, y al haber avisado antes, nos hubiera encantado atenderos con una persona que pudiera comunicar en portugués.
As usual Roberto was a fabulous guide!! I have used Papillon on over six other tours in Italy and he always delivers or his compatriot does. We booked this entire cruise just so that we could finally see the Cinque Terre and see it we did. We never could have figured out which ferries to take what time to catch each etc without Roberto's excellent help. He had it all laid out like clockwork and we stayed to the schedule and finally got to see the Cinque Terre. The only thing he could have done better would to have had fewer tourists in each port!! We used Papillon Tours for two in Italy and two in France this time and all were excellent. They know the area and what are the interesting places and can adapt the tours to your schedule.
