I tour si incontrano alle 9:00 per partire alle 9:15 dalla parte anteriore dell'Hotel Columba
Innanzitutto, un tour e una degustazione alla distilleria Glen Moray a Elgin ci riportano alla tradizione. Un cambio di proprietà nel 2008 ha visto la distilleria tornare alle origini e produrre un single malt Speyside semplice e di qualità. Il risultato è la gamma “Elgin Heritage”, composta da un single malt invecchiato 12, 15 e 18 anni che non delude.
Poi si passa alla nostra prossima distilleria. Si dice che “Roma fu costruita su sette colli e Dufftown sorge su sette alambicchi”. Uno di questi alambicchi è la famosa distilleria Glenfiddich, la prossima del nostro itinerario per una degustazione di whisky. Glenfiddich è una delle poche distillerie che rimane di proprietà della famiglia, producendo un caratteristico single malt sviluppato da generazioni di "produttori di whisky anticonformisti". Oggi, Glenfiddich è il whisky Single Malt più premiato, una testimonianza dei metodi senza compromessi della distilleria.

Ci lasciamo alle spalle le aspre Highlands e iniziamo il nostro viaggio attraverso la lussureggiante Spey Valley, passando per i campi di orzo dorato sul nostro sentiero del whisky, uno dei tre ingredienti chiave utilizzati nella magia della produzione di whisky single malt. Goditi una degustazione alla Cardhu Distillery, fondata nel 1824 da John e Helen Cumming, ex contrabbandieri di whisky. Nei giorni della distillazione illecita della coppia, Helen avrebbe sventolato una bandiera rossa per avvertire i vicini che gli uomini delle tasse stavano alloggiando con loro nella loro fattoria. La Cardhu Distillery è stata una delle prime a collaborare con John Walker & Sons. È rimasto in questa famiglia per 200 anni, producendo con cura il whisky single malt "elegante, morbido e sensuale di Cardhu".
Dal 1865 Glenfarclas è posseduta e gestita da una sola famiglia, The Grants of Glenfarclas.

Bob was an experienced guide with lots of information to share. He is everything you can ask for in a guide. The tour itself was a highlight on our trip, we got to experience how whiskey is produced and also visit several distilleries and taste many different whiskeys.

The picture is where I waited for 45 minutes before I was told the trip I had booked for in February, paid for on Sunday and reminded on 2 days before and the day before was CANCELLED! 6 months and my money wasted ! It was to be the HIGHLIGHT of my Highlands tour 🙄. I travelled 3500 miles for this excursion 🤨. Thanks VIOLATOR and Not Happy Tours for ruining my holiday! Yeah, this is a BOGUS BS non-excursion! BEWARE! 😒
This is an extreme reaction to a situation totally out with our control, and a genuine booking error on our part. . The distilleries this year have been so unpredictable with letting tour companies book tours and tastings. They are still not operating to the capacity they did pre covid . We felt we could not give you the tour to the high level of customer service we maintain. We came in person to apologise and explain the situation. You got an immediate on the spot refund of everything you paid. I helped you to book the tour of Glenmorangie you wanted so bad, along with travel there, and left you with what seemed to me and you at the time a good resolution. We even shook hands on it and had a joke.
We took the Speyside whisky tour with Robbie and had a fantastic time! Plenty of local knowledge and fascinating off-track detours made the tour a wonderful experience.

The contrast between the distilleries was amazing and all offered something unique. Our driver/guide Bill was a font of knowledge and made the trip an exceptional experience. He really did go the extra mile!

Our guide & driver Rob was the best part of our day. He recited Robbie Burns, sang songs about the Gordon clan, and entertained us with tales of the Orange versus the Jacobites. He knows every rock band worth its salt, can play the entire guitar solo from Metallica’s Whisky In The Jar, and told us all about salmon fishing on the Beauly. Plus he looked after each of us and made sure we each had a lovely day. We went on this tour to drink whisky but had no idea that the whisky would be completely overshadowed by a true gentleman and a scholar. We will never forget the sound of “To A Mouse” as recited by Rob, the highlight of our trip. One of Scotland’s finest - we hope we meet him again some day.
