Con i biglietti d'ingresso salta fila e la tua guida esperta, inizia nel 138 d.C. quando il Castello fu originariamente costruito come monumento funebre per l'imperatore Adriano. Qui puoi ancora esplorare il mausoleo a lui dedicato. Esplora la sala del Tesoro all'interno del castello, dove si dice che le sue ceneri fossero originariamente deposte prima del saccheggio di Roma del V secolo. Mentre attraversi il castello, visita gli appartamenti papali affrescati. Ascolta le vite del papa e dei cardinali che risiedevano qui, come i Borgia e altri che si nascosero quando la crisi colpì. Fermati in una camera delle torture nel cortile dove si sono svolte numerose esecuzioni e ammira il famoso Passeto Secreto, il "passaggio segreto" che collega direttamente il castello con il Vaticano e che ha ispirato il libro di Dan Brown Angeli e demoni. Infine, goditi una vista mozzafiato della città dalla cima del monumento dove l'Arcangelo Michele è armato di spada, a guardia della città.

Chiarra “Whiskey” was very detailed and passionate about the information she shared about the castle. The history of the castle is amazing and she was able elaborate on the stories and history. The views from the top of the castle were awesome and Chiarra pointed out the various sites that you could see from the top.

If you are lucky enough to get Vincenzo (Vincent) Spina for your guide, prepare for an amazing experience!! We spent 2+ hours with him being taught, entertained, and quizzed in the very best way. He wove facts and stories together, really bringing the history of Castel Sant'Angelo to life. We could've easily spent another 2 hours with him, what a fun afternoon. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle. Our day was very hot. There is a small cafe and sit down restaurant inside the castle though, so you will have the opportunity for food/drinks after the tour. If you are able to request Vincenzo, I highly recommend you do!
