Soprannominata la "Svizzera del Caucaso", Racha è una delle regioni più pittoresche della Georgia. Cime innevate, possenti ghiacciai, valli nascoste, verdi prati alpini e viste panoramiche sulla catena del Grande Caucaso sono solo alcune delle gemme della regione. Guarda un paio di pochi posti al mondo inclusi nell'elenco dei siti del patrimonio mondiale dell'UNESCO situati nella regione di Imereti. È un piccolo e bellissimo monastero con torrette rotonde coronate da cupole a punta a forma di tenda. Il monastero si trova sopra l'aspro fiume Rioni ed è sepolto nella vegetazione costiera. Secondo la leggenda il monastero fu costruito sul luogo dove gli aggressori musulmani giustiziarono David e Konstantin Mkheidze, principi georgiani, che rifiutarono di accettare l'Islam. Nella piccola sala del monastero su un'altura si trova una grande arca rettangolare con i doni dei pii principi canonizzati dalla Chiesa georgiana. Motsameta attira folle di turisti con un'antica superstizione: se uno si infila tre volte sotto l'arca ed esprime un desiderio toccando i doni, i principi David e Konstantin lo esaudiranno. Lo zar Bagrat III ricostruì la chiesa nel X secolo. L'edificio fu nuovamente ricostruito nel XIX secolo.
Il Monastero di Gelati si trova nella regione di Imereti. Il monastero fu fondato da Davide il Costruttore nel 1106. Si legge nel suo testamento: “Il monastero rimase per la mia sepoltura e per la cripta dei miei figli per sempre e prenderò eterno dolore, così possa mio figlio Dimitri completare la costruzione”. Qui è sepolto il più grande re della Georgia. L'insieme comprende la chiesa principale dell'Assunzione della Vergine, la chiesa di San Giorgio, la chiesa di San Nicola, il campanile, l'accademia e il recinto. Il Monastero di Gelati era il più grande centro culturale ed educativo. Il complesso dei gelati è incluso nella lista dei patrimoni dell'umanità dell'UNESCO.
Tskhrajvari ("Nove Croci") è probabilmente il punto panoramico più spettacolare di tutta la Georgia e sicuramente tra le migliori escursioni giornaliere vicino a Kutaisi. Tskhrajvari è un luogo di pellegrinaggio e punto panoramico ortodosso situato vicino al Passo Nakerala, proprio al culmine delle regioni Imereti e Racha-Lechkhumi della Georgia occidentale. A 1.500 metri sul livello del mare, offre viste incredibili sulle montagne del Grande Caucaso, comprese le cime gemelle dell'Ushba. In una giornata limpida puoi vedere fino al Mar Nero. L'escursione inizia dietro la stazione abbandonata della funivia in cemento. Si comincia subito a salire, ma con una pendenza molto dolce. Il percorso non è rigorosamente segnalato ma è abbastanza ovvio dove dovresti andare. In caso di dubbio seguire le rocce bianche. Lungo tutto il percorso si aprono punti panoramici. Vedrai anche vari santuari religiosi, tra cui un tronco d'albero scavato pieno di icone e alberi dei desideri carichi di sciarpe di raso, nastri e pezzi di stoffa strappata.
Il bacino idrico di Shaori è uno dei luoghi più attraenti di Racha. Dirigendosi a Racha, non puoi oltrepassare il bacino idrico che ti abbaglia con il suo paesaggio.
La cattedrale di Nikortsminda è una chiesa ortodossa georgiana, situata a Nikortsminda, nella regione di Racha in Georgia. Nikortsminda fu costruita nel 1010–1014 durante il regno di Bagrat III di Georgia[1] e fu riparata nel 1534 dal re Bagrat III di Imereti. Il campanile a tre piani accanto alla cattedrale fu costruito nella seconda metà del XIX secolo. Gli affreschi all'interno della cattedrale risalgono al XVII secolo. La cattedrale segue una pianta a croce rettangolare a bracci corti e presenta un breve segmento a ovest. Le facciate della cattedrale sono ricoperte di pietra levigata. Le decorazioni includono arcate ininterrotte e vari ricchi ornamenti, inclusi rilievi ed episodi narrativi a figure multiple. Nikortsminda ha tra le decorazioni più belle di tutte le chiese e cattedrali georgiane poiché si possono vedere diversi stili. La cattedrale è nella lista provvisoria per lo status di patrimonio mondiale dell'UNESCO.

The tour was very diverse. We enjoyed beautiful views and visited a 2nd-century monastery. We also went fishing together. Our guide gave us plenty of time for everything; he's very knowledgeable.
Irakli is a very knowledgeable, kind, and passionate guide. We had a great time on this off-the-beaten path tour to the remote and beautiful Racha region, with a good mix of mountain/lake views, hike, and monasteries. He also was quite flexible and added optional secondary stops. He was also a great, smooth driver and gave us many helpful recommendations. Highly recommended!

Georgian Voyage- Can highly recommend this unique tour experience with a local and small guide company! This was the perfect itinerary focused on the mountains and monasteries with the bonus combination of a mini hike plus walk and a food tour thanks to our wonderful free flowing interaction with Iracli. Kudos to Iracli for picking us up from our hostel on the outskirts of Kutaisi 💯 He patiently explained the history of the various monasteries we visited and gave us real deep insights into the differences among the regions within Georgia! Given we’re a relatively physically active couple, Iracli offered to hike with us to the top of the nine crosses mountain. He even included two bonus stops after the last stop since we vibed so well! We tasted local Racha delicacies in Ambroulari and then even took a detour to visit a waterfall on the route back to Kutaisi. To top it all, he’s an avid football fan so we watched the man united match together during the journey. In short, I’d highly recommend at least a day with him in Georgia to get the perfect local experience blended with fun 🤩

My son and I had an amazing experience visiting Racha region with Saba from Georgian Voyage. Our guide Saba went above and beyond to show the best of Racha region’s lakes, mountains, waterfalls and of course monasteries. It’s hard to believe how much travel he packed in a one day trip.
