Il teatro romano, edificato tra il 5 e l'1 aC, aveva una capienza di circa 7000 spettatori, ed era in uso fino al III secolo, quando furono sovrapposti diversi edifici. Nel 1988 è stato riesumato. Con una capienza di circa 7000 spettatori, era uno dei più grandi dell'Hispania romana, scavato quasi interamente nella roccia. Il Museo del Teatro Romano, progettato dall'architetto Rafael Moneo, conduce i visitatori all'interno del monumento, trasformando il Teatro Romano nella sua ultima grande sala.
Il Palazzo Concistoriale di Cartagena, noto anche come Municipio di Cartagena, è uno dei principali edifici modernisti della città, costruito tra il 1900 e il 1907. È un edificio triangolare. La facciata è interamente realizzata in marmo bianco, e sul tetto spiccano le cupole in zinco. L'intero esterno è ripetutamente decorato con gli stemmi della città: il castello della Concezione, lo stemma della città e la corona murale, assegnata dal generale romano Scipione l'Africano quando prese la città di Carthago Nova.

La città di Carthago Nova fu una delle più splendide dell'Impero Romano. Fin dall'epoca repubblicana, aveva un grande anfiteatro. Il foro romano di Carthago Nova si trovava nel centro della città, alla confluenza delle strade principali e tra le montagne. Il forum si trovava approssimativamente sotto l'attuale piazza di San Francisco ed è stato parzialmente scavato. Tra i principali monumenti del foro finora rinvenuti ci sono: - Tempio dedicato alla triade capitolina: Giove, Giunone e Minerva. - L'augusteo. - La curia, sede del governo della colonia. - Terme e palestra del basso periodo imperiale. - Il tempio di Iside.
Al Muro Punico entrerai in uno degli episodi più importanti della storia del Mediterraneo, le Guerre Puniche tra Cartaginesi e Romani. Imparerai a conoscere il leggendario passato di Qart Hadast fondata dal generale Asdrubale nel 229 a.C. e il suo sito più significativo, il muro, uno dei pochi resti cartaginesi trovati in Spagna. Inoltre, accanto al muro, puoi vedere la cripta sepolcrale dell'eremo di San Jose costruita nei secoli XVI e XVII. Le sue pareti offrono un programma pittorico molto particolare, le Danze della Morte.

We shared a wonderful afternoon with Noelia. She is a lovely young lady with good history and stories of Cartagena. The Roman Amphitheater is amazing. Lost under rubble and homes for 2000 years and found by chance. The facades of Cartagena are beautiful in the old city. We highly recommend this tour.

Noelia is the most wonderful guide! It felt like we were walking around Cartagena with a friend. Her personal stories as a native of the area brought the history to life. I’m ashamed to admit I didn’t know much about the Spanish Civil War before this trip, but she helped us understand it and its impact to Cartagena and so many other communities. Know if you’re visiting on a Monday that most museums and landmarks are closed, but Noelia was so knowledgeable that it didn’t matter! And she was able to get us into a museum which we had all to ourselves! What a treat, especially since it was raining outside, it gave us a chance to keep learning and dry off :-) She was even kind enough to take us to a place for authentic Asiatico (espresso with Licorice 43 among other tasty ingredients) and help us find a reputable retailer to get a few glasses with the recipe to take home. At the end of our tour she recommended some non-tourist local spots for lunch and she was spot on. We had the most amazing experience because of her expertise, kindness, and patience. I hope to come back in the future and get in contact with her again.
