Mtskheta è una delle città più antiche della Georgia vicino a Tbilisi. Mtskheta fu capitale del primo regno georgiano di Iberia dal III secolo a.C. al V secolo d.C. Qui i georgiani accettarono il cristianesimo nel 317. Il monastero di Jvari è un monastero ortodosso georgiano del VI secolo vicino a Mtskheta .. La grande chiesa rappresenta l'apice della tipologia architettonica. È un vero capolavoro architettonico del periodo altomedievale che si affaccia sulla confluenza dei fiumi Aragvi e Mtkvari dalla cima della collina. La cattedrale di Svetitskhoveli fu costruita nell'XI secolo, anche se il sito stesso è ancora più antico, risalente agli inizi del IV secolo.Il monumento ha una croce allungata che sembra toccare il cielo. La cattedrale è il secondo edificio della chiesa più grande della Georgia ed è elencata come UNESCO. Il complesso del monastero di Samtavro fu costruito nell'XI secolo. Contiene la tomba della regina Nana e Mirian III, il re dell'Iberia, che stabilì il cristianesimo come religione ufficiale in Georgia.

I really enjoyed this tour to Mtskheta, the old capital of Georgia. It was a beautiful and peaceful trip, and the place feels very special with its rich history and amazing views. The churches and historic sites were impressive, especially Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. The tour was well organized, comfortable, and not too tiring. Our tour guide, Nino, was wonderful — very friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about Georgian history and culture. She made the experience even more interesting and enjoyable.
