Benvenuti a Rajarata! (La Contea del Re o La Terra dei Re) Inizieremo la nostra giornata dal Monastero della Foresta di Vessagiriya, che è uno dei due più antichi monaci buddisti che vivono nell'isola. A Vessagiriya, gli ospiti inizieranno a immergersi profondamente nell'antica civiltà singalese nutrita di Buddhismo, Agricoltura, Belle Arti, Architettura, Mestieri, Relazioni Internazionali e Meraviglie di Ingegneria Spellbinding e lì si avrà un'idea di come Anuradhapura appariva nella sua epoca d'oro fin dal suo inizio.
Nascosto sul lato di una parete rocciosa al Ran Masu Uyana (il parco reale dei pesci rossi) incastonato tra il Tissa Wewa e il tempio rupestre di Isurumuniya ad Anuradhapura, lo Sri Lanka è un manufatto unico dell'antico Sri Lanka che è localmente noto come "Bawa Chakraya" o "Sakwala Chakraya".
L'Albero della Bodhi di Sri Maha o Albero della Bodhi Sacra (un fico o albero di Pipal scientificamente conosciuto come Ficus Religiosa) è considerato come il primo degli otto luoghi sacri di Anuradhapura. Questo è registrato per essere il ramo dell'ala destra dell'Albero Sri Maha Bodhi a Bodh Gaya in India sotto il quale il Siddhartha asceta raggiunse l'Illuminismo, e fu inviato dall'imperatore Ashoka attraverso la sua amata figlia, la suora buddista Theri Sanghamitta, su richiesta del re singalese Devanampiyatissa nel III secolo a.C. Da questo momento in poi è venuto ad essere venerato dai successivi Re, Monaci, Monache e Buddisti Laici poiché è una connessione vivente con il Buddha Gautama. In particolare, è generalmente accettato che sarebbe il più antico albero vivente umano piantato al mondo con le più lunghe registrazioni scritte e attualmente di quasi 2300 anni.
A nord o il Sacro Albero della Bodhi, possiamo assistere a un'enorme collezione di pilastri di granito in piedi che è stata identificata come l'edificio fatiscente dell'antico palazzo di bronzo che un tempo serviva come centro amministrativo dell'antico complesso del monastero di Maha Vihara costruito sotto la guida del Gran Re Gamini Abhaya nel II secolo a.C., un nipote del re Devanampiyatissa. Era un edificio di nove piani con 1000 camere diverse. Il nome, Brazen Palce deriva dal fatto che il suo tetto era di paglia con tegole di rame.
Ruwanveliseya stupa noto anche come Ratnamali o come Mahathupa (Th Great Stupa) è stato costruito sotto la guida del Grande Gentile Gamini Abhaya nel II secolo aC. Le cronache descrivono fantasticamente la cerimonia di inaugurazione di questo Stupa come grande festa che si è tenuta ad Anuradhapura con la partecipazione di Invitati anche da altri paesi come diplomatici. Tuttavia fu distrutto durante l'invasione Chola dal X secolo AC e fu riportato allo stupa al suo splendore originale nel XII secolo AC dal re Parakkramabahu il più grande. Poi comunque quello che vediamo oggi è la forma restaurata più recente che è stata completata dalla Ratnamali Stupa Development Society nel 1940, quella che è stata iniziata per la prima volta dal Ven. Naranvita Sumanasara Thero nel 1873 poiché voleva riportarlo al suo antico splendore.
Questa pittoresca coppia di Stagni costruiti sul bassopiano sono senza dubbio squisiti esemplari di architettura paesaggistica del territorio e, naturalmente, un meraviglioso sistema idraulico che mostra non solo i talenti ma il senso estetico di queste magnifiche persone.
Questo è davvero somthing come un bagno di vapore moderno, ma questo non era solo per godere di bagno di vapore con acqua calda, ma di un farmaco singalese ben sviluppato che ha eseguito nel IV secolo AC in poi. Lì possiamo discutere come funzionava e come i monaci malati dell'Università Abhayagiriya curavano le loro decadute cutanee.
Lì vedremo di nuovo un grande abbeveratoio di granito a forma di stand di canoa con un incredibile intaglio nei locali del refettorio del Monastero di Abhayagiriya. Il monaco cinese Fa-hsien che studiava all'Università Abhayagiriya nel V secolo d.C. registrò che nel monastero c'erano 5000 monaci buddisti e questo particolare abbeveratoio poteva contenere riso sufficiente per un tale numero.
Questa è una delle più belle opere d'arte in Sri Lanka risale a circa l'VIII secolo AC. E questo capolavoro mette preziosamente in mostra il senso estetico degli antichi artigiani e quanto incredibilmente abbiano messo in pratica le loro conoscenze, capacità, talenti, sentimenti.
Questo è popolarmente noto come Eth-Pokuna per la gente del posto o lo stagno degli elefanti in inglese, situato a sud-ovest del Refettorio è forse il più grande stagno costruito dall'uomo in Asia che è stato costruito nel III secolo AC. Si dice che questo sia tre volte più grande di una piscina olimpionica moderna. Il miracolo qui non è solo la sua enorme dimensione, ma i condotti sotterranei che ancora funzionano e hanno fornito acqua al laghetto dai vicini serbatoi e nell'angolo sud-ovest possiamo notare una chiusa a cisterna che suggerisce che l'acqua era distribuita ad altri stagni relativamente più piccoli nelle vicinanze raffiguranti le superbe capacità di ingegneria idraulica degli antichi cingalesi.
La pietra di luna è un'altra creazione più bella e mozzafiato dell'antico scultore. Serve da zerbino ai piedi di una rampa di scale per un santuario buddista, ma lo scultore lo trasforma in un'opera d'arte di eccellenza.

We had a very nice morning with Lucky! Our son of 1.5 years came with us and therefore some flexibility was needed from Lucky. That was no problem at all! Lucky has a lot of knowledge and is extremely enthusiastic. I also found his realistic and down-to-earth view of Buddhism fascinating. He is absolutely recommended as a tour guide!

Lucky took us through the most interesting monastries and ruïnes and told passionatly about budhism and it’s history. Lucky had been a guide since 12 years and knows a lot about Budhism. Overall is was a very fun experience and I learned a lot from Lucky!

I had an outstanding guided tour in Anuradhapura and can highly recommend it. Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the history of the ancient city. His understanding of archaeology, architecture, and Buddhist philosophy was impressive, and he explained everything in a structured, engaging way. I had a wonderful experience with Lucky in Anuradhapura. Over the course of the 7-hour tour, he provided a very detailed and engaging introduction to the ancient monasteries and sacred sites, explaining not only the historical background but also the cultural and spiritual significance behind them.
