Il Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi è un fico sacro, o Ficus religiosa, che si trova nei giardini Mahamewna ad Anuradhapura, nello Sri Lanka. Non solo è il collegamento vivente autentico più vicino a Gautama Buddha, ma è anche il più antico albero piantato dall'uomo al mondo con una data di impianto nota e una storia documentata.
Palazzo di bronzo (Lowamahapaya) Questo è il sito della struttura monastica di nove piani costruita nel II secolo aC dal re Dutugmunu. Si dice che la struttura avesse un refettorio, una sala riunioni e una sala capitolare, oltre a un tetto ricoperto di tegole di bronzo (da cui il nome "Palazzo di bronzo").
Il Ruwanweliseya si trova nell'antica capitale singalese di Anuradhapura, nella provincia centro-settentrionale dello Sri Lanka. Fu costruito dal re Dutugamunu (137 a.C. - 119 a.C.) e completato da suo fratello minore, il re Saddhatissa, dopo la sua morte. Il Ruwanweliseya è classificato tra i monumenti antichi più alti del mondo.
A 122 metri (400 piedi), era lo stupa più alto del mondo e la terza struttura più alta del mondo quando fu costruita dal re Mahasena di Anuradhapura (273–301).
Kuttam Pokuna (stagni o piscine gemelle) sono vecchie vasche da bagno o stagni ben conservati nello Sri Lanka. Questa coppia di stagni fu costruita dai singalesi nell'antico regno di Anuradhapura. Fanno parte del complesso Abhayagiri vihāra e sono un esempio delle opere nel campo dell'ingegneria idrologica, dell'architettura e dell'arte degli antichi cingalesi.
Il Samadhi Buddha è una famosa statua situata nel Parco Mahamevnāwa ad Anuradhapura, nello Sri Lanka. Il Buddha è raffigurato nella posizione del Dhyana Mudra, la posizione di meditazione associata alla sua prima Illuminazione. Questa statua è alta 7 piedi e 3 pollici e scolpita nel marmo dolomitico.
Jethawanaramaya Stupa è uno dei monumenti buddisti più iconici e sacri di Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, costruito durante il regno di re Mahasena. Una volta innalzato di oltre 120 metri, era tra le strutture in mattoni più alte del mondo antico e un importante centro per l'apprendimento buddhista Theravada e Mahayana. Sandakada Pahana, noto anche come Moonstone, è una caratteristica unica dell'architettura dell'antico Sri Lanka. È una lastra di pietra semicircolare riccamente scolpita, solitamente posta in fondo a scale e ingressi.
Nel corso del tempo, gli architetti del regno di Anuradhapura hanno utilizzato la pietra, invece del legno, per la costruzione di pietre di guardia, pietre di luna e balaustre, poiché la pietra era un materiale più duraturo. La fase successiva nell'evoluzione delle pietre di guardia è stata l'inclusione delle incisioni.
L'Elephant Pond (Eth Pokuna) ad Anuradhapura è un'enorme antica riserva idrica costruita durante il regno dei re nello storico regno di Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka. Misurando circa 159 metri di lunghezza, 52 metri di larghezza e 9,5 metri di profondità, veniva utilizzato per fornire acqua ai monasteri vicini. Il tempio Isurumuniya, situato ad Anuradhapura, è un bellissimo e storicamente significativo tempio rupestre noto per le sue intricate sculture in pietra. Costruito nel III secolo a.C., era originariamente un santuario per i monaci buddisti. Il tempio è famoso per la straordinaria scultura Isurumuniya Lovers, che mette in mostra l'eccezionale maestria dell'antico Sri Lanka. Circondato da un sereno laghetto di loti e da formazioni rocciose scolpite, il tempio offre un'atmosfera pacifica, rendendolo un sito da visitare assolutamente sia per gli appassionati di storia che per i ricercatori spirituali.

We had the best experience with Navin! If you are in Anuradhapura, definitely book this tour (or one of his other tours). Navin picked us up and dropped us off with his tuktuk, was extremely kind and interesting, and could tell us everything about the many places we visited. He loves his work and that truly shows, he shares his culture and is eager to learn yours.

We had such a great time with Navin. He is very friendly, easy to talk to and knows a lot about Anuradhapura, its history and Buddhism. He explains everything in a relaxed and interesting way and really takes the time to answer your questions. What made the tour even better was his sense of humor. He knew quite a few Dutch words, sayings and jokes, which made us laugh a lot throughout the day. Communication through WhatsApp was also very easy and clear. Besides the tour, he gave us some great tips for local restaurants and other activities in the area. We learned a lot, laughed a lot and had a really fun and interesting tour. Definitely recommend Navin if you are visiting Anuradhapura!

This afternoon we made a very nice and enjoyable tour through Anuradhapura accompanied by Navin. With two tuktuks we were driven around and at the main spots Navin told us. He has explained to us things about Buddhism, about the temples, the stupas and the archaeological remains of the old city. Navin is a very enthusiastic and funny guide, who senses his company well.

We will probably never forget this experience. The tour itself was already brilliant. After a brief introduction, we got into deep talks with Navin very quickly and were able to/allowed to ask him really anything. We were able to talk about poverty, dating, inflation, crises in Sri Lanka, and much more. Navin was very honest about it and didn't sugarcoat anything. For us, that was perfect because we wanted to get a deeper impression of people's lives, and we did. Besides our "off-topic" conversations, the tour was, as already mentioned, brilliant. Professionally and linguistically, Navin is completely convincing. What we also particularly liked is that we knew at all times what was happening next, how far the next restroom was, when we needed something to drink/eat, etc. Navin had everything 100% under control and we were able to sit back and let ourselves be guided through this tour (and enjoy it).

At the suggestion of Navim we did the afternoon tour instead of the morning. First we were a bit surprised by this but it was really a good idea. It allowed to escape most of the heat and the atmosphere around the Stupas was really great at sunset. Overall a very good experience. Also our teenage daughters were captivated by Navim's enthousiasm and really enjoyed the tour.

We had such a great time exploring Anuradhapura with our guide! He picked us up in his tuk-tuk and showed us around both the Old Town and New Town. We learned A LOT about the history (and somehow remembered at least some of it 😄), but there was also plenty of laughing, joking and chatting along the way. He was super friendly, funny and easy to talk to. It honestly felt more like hanging out with a local friend than being on a tour. Definitely recommend him if you want to discover Anuradhapura in a fun and relaxed way! 😊

We had contact beforehand via Viator and later via WhatsApp. He picked us up in 2 tuktuks. Navin knows a lot about all the places we visited, made jokes, is very enthusiastic about the city and his country. He had answers to the questions if we wanted to know more. He's fun with kids. Our boys of 11 and 9 were in the tuktuk with him. Our tour ran an hour late but he didn't bother with that. The boys also thought it was a super interesting afternoon and were not bored for a second.
