Matera ha molto da offrire: è un sito Patrimonio dell'Umanità dell'UNESCO, Capitale Europea della Cultura 2019 e una città rupestre che risale a oltre 5000 anni fa. Visita il suo centro storico e le antiche abitazioni rupestri, prova i prodotti enogastronomici locali della Basilicata, quindi scegli di visitare la casa-museo rupestre o una chiesa rupestre. Considerato uno degli insediamenti trogloditi più straordinari e intatti, le antiche abitazioni rupestri di Matera, o "sassi", sono la grande attrazione della città. Partendo dal centro storico, visiteremo il quartiere barocco, noto come "Il Piano", dove chiese e palazzi sono costruiti in cima alle grotte. Avventurati nei quartieri di "Sasso Barisano" e "Sasso Caveoso" per vedere gli antichi "sassi" scolpiti nel canyon della Gravina e ti fermerai a riflettere nel vecchio quartiere di "Civita". Potrai anche provare cibi e vini tipici al Ristorante Panecotto, prima di scegliere tra una visita facoltativa al museo della casa rupestre o una chiesa rupestre, scavata nella roccia.

No worth the money. It was a large group. Just walked the town, could have explored without tour leader. Tour leader was ok, had to wait while he explained in different languages. For the price, we were expecting more.

I enjoyed seeing all of the major highlights in Matera and learning a little bit of history. I signed up for an English tour but unfortunately there were only 4 of us who were English. The rest of the tourists were German so our guide had to translate twice, which meant we had less time exploring and learning more information and more time standing around, waiting. The driver was 20 minutes late picking me up and we had to wait another 20 minutes once in Matera for the rest of the group to show up. I don’t think I got my money’s worth. However, Matera is a must see!!

The whole town of Matera was absolutely amazing. A lot of walking up and down steps but worth it in the end. Our guide Indigo was a wealth of knowledge and knew his history. He was also a perfect gentleman!
