Il Tempio Senso-ji è il tempio più antico di Tokyo. Il nome Asakusa compare per la prima volta nella storia del Giappone nel 628, quando una piccola statua del Kannon fu catturata da due pescatori ad Asakusa. La gente del villaggio costruì un piccolo tempio per la statua senza sapere nulla della sua origine. La statua è stata tenuta nascosta in una scatola di legno sigillata dal 645, quando un monaco buddista che era stato invitato da Nara a vedere la statua suggerì di farlo. La scatola fu aperta una volta nel 1868 da ufficiali inviati dal governo per eseguire gli ordini riguardanti la separazione tra shintoismo e buddismo. Il tempio ricevette un sostegno costante da potenti samurai e divenne un tempio di famiglia dello shogun Tokugawa all'inizio del XVII secolo. La maggior parte degli edifici del tempio andarono perduti durante la seconda guerra mondiale. L'edificio principale è stato ricostruito nel 1958 e la pagoda a cinque piani nel 1973.
Tuttavia, il mercato principale di Tsukiji è stato sostituito nel 2018 dal mercato di Toyosu, rimane il mercato esterno di Tsukiji. Booking a 5-hour layover tour with Outech was the best decision we made during our trip. From airport pick-up to drop-off, everything was seamless, efficient, and completely stress-free. Our guide-cum-chauffeur, Kana-san, was absolute perfection—professional, friendly, fluent in English, and extremely knowledgeable. She ensured we squeezed in all the top Tokyo highlights without ever feeling rushed. The vehicle was spotless, comfortable, and stocked with snacks. If you have a layover in Tokyo, Outech (and Kana-san!) is 100% worth it.

If you have a short layover in Tokyo, book this tour! Kana communicated with us via whatsapp the night before, in the morning and then met us promptly at the airport after our arrival from Yokohama and made our 5-hour tour seamless. She provided cold water, snacks, and free Wi-Fi, which made the ride incredibly comfortable. What we loved most was how she helped us plan before she started to drive—she asked targeted questions to understand what we liked and customized a fast-paced itinerary so we could maximize our sightseeing. Kana is polite, knowledgeable, and a wonderful conversationalist. We would absolutely choose OUTECH and Kana again for future trips to Japan!

Zu was our guide she was fantastic we had the best tour in Tokyo, she communicated so well, the meeting point and the whole process was so easy and seamless, she went out of her way to make everyone feel comfortable, it was a great taste tester of Tokyo.

Peter picked us up from our hotel and was simply wonderful. He went above and beyond by providing us with a bag of Japanese snacks that my kids loved. It was very appreciated. He also told us all about the places we were passing on the way to the airport. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone.

It was wonderful and very convenient to have a private tour van pick our family from domestic terminal for 5 hour tour for layover at Tokyo and drop us off later at international terminal. Our tour guide Ms Miku definitely made our tour even more amazing. She accommodated the tour to our family's agenda. She was very knowledgeable and explained history and significance of the places we visited. And we had few delicious food station stops during our walk she recommended that was delicious. Made Harajuku stop longer bec kids wanted to spend more time here. Ms Miku definitely made our 5 hour layover tour an extraordinary experience. We highly recommend Ms Miku as a guide and her company. And thank you for the box of variety of delicious snacks and refreshments.

We had a fantastic time with the wonderful Roberto. He took us to see things we were interested in and had the most amazing stories to tell us. We learnt so much from him, and saw temples and parks and old Tokyo and the highlight was Mt Fuji.
