Echmiatsin è il centro sacro della Chiesa Apostolica Armena, la più antica chiesa statale del mondo. Qui tutti possono visitare il museo "Tesori di Echmiatsin" per vedere la Santa Lancia (Lancia), reliquie appartenenti agli Apostoli di Gesù e Giovanni Battista e un frammento dell'Arca di Noè. La chiesa di Saint Hripsime è una chiesa apostolica armena del VII secolo. La chiesa fu costruita dal Catholicos Komitas sulle spoglie della santa martire Hripsime a cui la chiesa è dedicata. La Chiesa di Santa Gayane è una chiesa armena del VII secolo situata di nuovo a Etchmiadzin. St. Gayane fu costruita dal Catholicos Ezra I nel 630. Questa chiesa è dedicata alla badessa Gayane e fu costruita nel luogo in cui fu torturata santa Gayane. Il tempio di Zvartnots, costruito nel VII secolo vicino a Ejmiatsin, è un eccezionale monumento dell'architettura mondiale. Nel 2000, Zvartnots, insieme alle chiese di St. Hripsimeh, St. Gayaneh e la Cattedrale Madre di Echmiadzin, è stata dichiarata Patrimonio dell'Umanità dall'UNESCO.

The friendly driver Dikran picked me up on time. He showed me around the places visited, and shared some stories about Armenia. The only thing that I may not be happy was I had to pay two tickets to get in Zvartnots Cathedral as the driver had to drive inside the site.

Even though the museum was closed during my visit, Dikram was an amazing guide. As a Roman Catholic, Dikram gave me an understanding of how the nation of Armenia became the first Christian nation and also gave me tours of other churches. I highly recommend this tour, and thanks to Arevik for contacting me a day before the tour. Without Dikram, my tour guide, I wouldn’t have been able to visit these sites. 😊
