Tokyo Fishing & Fresh Catch Cucina Giapponese (Guida Inglese)

Suzukisan creates an incredible experience and is extremely thoughtful as well as very communicative. He picked me up directly from my hotel (which I had changed and this was no problem given how responsive he is on WhatsApp). He even makes a quick pit stop before the port (about an hour away from Tokyo) where you can pick up extra water and snacks if you forgot, and can also use a very clean bathroom (there is a small bathroom on the boat too, though I didn’t use it). You get on the boat around 0630 and come back to port about 1330. So bring lots of water and sun gear. I had a visor, sunglasses and a long sleeve sunshirt. Japanese law requires life vests and the one you get can be a bit hot so take breaks in shade and again, bring lots of water! Suzukisan is a wonderful teacher and we caught a beautiful variety of fish including Snapper, Yellowtail, and Mackerel. You share the boat with locals and others on fishing excursions. A nice local man shared a Sea Bream with us. After fishing Suzukisan takes you to Kawasaki (about an hour away from the port) and to a delightful izakaya that prepares all the fish. We had sashimi, karage, tempura, katsu, and grilled dishes of all our amazing catches. Finished with traditional soba noodles and served with buckwheat tea. You can order off the izakaya if you want (you pay for those items separately) but honestly you don’t need anything extra! Suzukisan had previously requested for us to take the train back to our hotels (this is a heavy traffic time in Tokyo and the metro is MUCH faster). I simply got on the Keikyu Line three blocks from the Izakaya, and it was a straight shot back to Nihombashi where I am staying, avoiding rush hour traffic for both myself and Suzukisan. The whole day is a bit over 12 hours as you get picked up around 0400 and I was back to my hotel about 1630. I brought a few items to change into at the Izakaya so I wasn’t hanging around in fishy items nor was I traveling on the metro in a dirty sunshirt. The day is planned out perfectly. The fishing is really fun. The meal is INCREDIBLE. I imagine this will be the best meal of my trip. I would recommend this to anyone who loves being on the water and loves fresh seafood.

It If I could give this 6/5 stars, I would. My husband, daughter (12) and I went together and it was well worth every penny. Our guide picked us up from our rental apartment and drove us to the fishing location, pointing out interesting sights along the way. At the marina, we boarded a large fishing boat that had a western style restroom, a shaded deck with seating, and another sitting room out of the sun. These features were nice to have for our daughter, who eventually became tired and wanted a break from the sun. The best part, of course, was the fishing. We were reeling in aji / horse mackerel and scorpion fish left and right, and left with >50 fish (not counting the little guys we threw back)! Our guide took photos of / for us during the experience, too, which was very nice. Afterward, he took us to a wonderful restaurant where they prepared a variety of Japanese dishes with our freshly-caught fish. The taste was amazing, and the presentation just as good. The whole experience (both fishing and restaurant) was excellent. This is very possibly the most fun and unique way available to spend the day in the Tokyo area. Imagine eating ultra-fresh sashimi that you just reeled in yourself from the Tokyo Bay! It’s such a cool experience. And if you’re not a seasoned angler, don’t worry, your guide will be more than capable of assisting you with proper technique. This activity is suitable to anyone, beginner, expert and in between.

I felt conflicted, so wanted to leave a review as a means to rationalize it in the form of pros and cons. Pros: The experience of being on the boat with Japanese locals who do this daily was incredibly unique. The ability to have the kitchen staff prepare and cook your catches in numerous ways was an experience like no other. I felt incredibly connected to the act of fishing as a full-circle experience, not just a means to an end. The host even cut sashimi from a catch in front of me on the boat, while I fished. Being driven to and from all locations (with pickup and dropoff of my choice) was valuable. The host’s experience in helping with anything fishing related and providing his knowledge throughout was certainly a value add compared to if I did this myself. Cons: The price. ~$450 for this experience felt drastically overpriced to me. I translated the sign in the fishing house, which appeared to me that I could’ve gone on the boat for ~$75. This doesn’t include the hands-on support and the gear, but the price discrepancy was more drastic than I would argue the value added was. The single-person occupancy charge was baseless in my opinion… being by myself in my opinion did not warrant $45 additional on what was an already expensive experience. The quality of the fishing itself… the experience made it seem like I would have access to a wide range of wild fish which would translate to the variety in the meal. In reality, you’ll be lucky to catch anything that isn’t a horse mackerel. I caught ~14 fish, 12 of which are horse mackerel, 2 of which were other small fish. The large fish you see in the photos are misleading, so I got my hopes up for a quality of fishing that was not true. There was a 3 hour period where I didn’t catch a single fish (which the host cannot control) but it dampened what I was expecting to be a smoother experience. All in all, a solid experience. But the price, baseless surcharge, and misleading fishing quality made this review what it is. If you want to pay that fee, knowing what to expect with the fishing quality, then by all means, you’ll still have a great time.

This was a great trip! Guide took care of everything I even caught a shark. We caught fish almost all day. Once finished fishing and going to the restaurant to eat what we caught hours before was the culmination to a perfect day. Food was perfect and the multiple dishes was amazing.

I had a really great experience on this tour from start to finish. The pickup was right on time and communication beforehand made the itinerary clear and stress-free. Once we got to the dock, all the equipment was ready to go, which made everything super easy. Suzuki provided clear instruction on the fishing methods for targeting the desired catch. It was a great time out on the water traveling to different parts of Tokyo Bay, providing a different perspective of the city. We caught scorpionfish and Horse Mackerel which the chef prepared in five different ways, each more delicious than the last.

Bottom line: this was an absolutely legendary day. A top 3 experience of our entire trip to Japan, and honestly one of the best family travel days we've ever had anywhere. I. The Start The day begins with Suzuki, your host and (very quickly) someone you realize is a true expert fisherman, picking you up directly from your hotel. Right away, you feel taken care of. No scrambling, no confusion. Just a smooth, scenic drive out of Tokyo, about an hour, as the city gives way to a quieter coastal feel. Along the way, you stop for snacks (a small touch, but perfect with kids), and then head to the port. Before boarding, there's a quick stop at a small outfitting shop where you get everything you need. Boots, life jackets, gear. Simple, efficient, and well thought out. Nothing feels rushed. Nothing feels overly "touristy." It just flows. II. The Boat From the port, it's a very short ride out to the fishing spot, which is ideal with kids. The boat is large, clean, and extremely well-run. You feel safe immediately. Everything is organized, everything has its place, and Suzuki clearly runs a tight operation. And then there are the electronic reels, which turn out to be a game changer. If you've ever fished before, you know how much work reeling can be. Here, it makes the experience accessible and fun for everyone, especially younger kids. III. The Fishing Once you're out there, the magic starts. Suzuki and his wife, Joy, are incredible. Truly. They're hands-on in the best possible way. Helping bait hooks (with squid), guiding you through technique, jumping in whenever needed, and making sure everyone is catching fish. And we were catching fish. Our sons, August (10) and Auden (5), had the time of their lives. Fully locked in, laughing, focused, and completely in it. They ended up catching around 20 fish between them, which is just wild. There's something about the rhythm of it. Drop the line, feel the bite, reel it in. It becomes almost addictive. And then, in the middle of all of it, we saw a submarine pass by. Just casually. One of those surreal, "did that just happen?" moments that somehow fits perfectly into the day. IV. The Hosts Experiences like this live or die by the people running them. Suzuki and Joy make this exceptional. They strike that perfect balance: expert but approachable, helpful without hovering, deeply knowledgeable but completely relaxed. You can tell they've done this many times, but they still treat your day like it matters. And it does. V. The Meal And then the day gets even better. After fishing, you drive about an hour to a small restaurant in a bustling city. From the outside, it's unassuming. Then you go downstairs… and the vibe shifts. Low lighting. Jazz music in the background. A feeling like you've stumbled into something hidden. They take your fish, the ones you just caught, and prepare them in front of you. Washed, scaled, presented… and then cooked in multiple ways. Sashimi. Fried. Grilled. Boiled. I'll be honest: I didn't think of myself as a "fish person." I loved everything. The sashimi was unbelievably fresh. The fried was crisp and perfect. The grilled had depth and flavor. Even the boiled, which I wouldn't normally go for, was incredible. The kids loved it even more than I did. It's hard to describe how satisfying it is to eat fish that you caught just hours before, prepared at this level, in this setting. Without question, a top 3 meal of my life. VI. The Feeling What makes this experience stand out is how complete it is. It's not just fishing. It's not just a meal. It's not just a tour. It's a full arc. From pickup, to the water, to the catch, to the table. All handled seamlessly, with care and intention. And it hits that rare balance: exciting for adults, unforgettable for kids, and meaningful for everyone. My guide Suzuki was very helpful and professional, had great English, and was right there for my every need. Started the day early with a punctual 4AM pickup and an hour drive to the pier. We boarded the boat and I was given all the gear I would need for the day and taught how to use everything. I have a lot of fresh water fishing experience, but this was my first ocean fishing charter, so it was very helpful to have him explain how to use the unfamiliar gear and give his expert tips on catching the very deep water fish. It didn't take long to get my first catch, and I ended up catching around 10 fish total, with only a few being too small to keep. I had a blast and although it was a bit of a gloomy and at times rainy day, it was a great experience. After making it back to land, we headed to the restaurant where the experienced chef prepared a delicious 6 course meal that blew me away and filled me to the brim! I also enjoyed getting to know Suzuki a bit better over lunch since I was solo that day. Absolute 5 star day with no real complaints outside the weather and a bit of nausea, which was thankfully kept to a relative minimum by the suggested medication. Would definitely suggest booking this experience!

Suzuki is a great guide and all round great person. He has very good fishing experience and ensured we had a great time while fishing. Everything was well organised and taken care of to make sure we enjoyed our fishing. The pick up and drop off was great. We caught plenty of fish and were taken to a resturant after to enjoy the fish we caught. Compliments to the resturant and the chef for doing such a great job in preparing the food and providing multiple different styles of preparing the fish. Would definitely book again.

Excellent support, facilities and equipment. I had someone with me all day and he was great and the fishing was great. My only issue is that before hand was not really clear as to the specifics as they never advised me I would have this person with me all day which was great or the fish I would be catching.
