Piazza Mitropoleos è una delle piazze più affascinanti del centro storico di Atene, situata a pochi minuti a piedi da Piazza Syntagma e dal quartiere Plaka. La piazza è dominata dall'imponente Cattedrale Metropolitana di Atene (nota anche come Cattedrale dell'Annunciazione), la più grande chiesa di Atene e sede dell'arcivescovo di Grecia. Proprio accanto alla cattedrale sorge la molto più piccola ma altrettanto affascinante Piccola Metropoli (Chiesa di Agios Eleftherios), una chiesa bizantina del XII secolo rinomata per le sue intricate sculture in pietra e dettagli architettonici. Il contrasto tra la grandiosità della Cattedrale Metropolitana e la scala intima della Piccola Metropoli illustra magnificamente gli strati della storia ateniese, dall'epoca bizantina alla Grecia moderna. Oggi, Piazza Mitropoleos è un vivace punto d'incontro circondato da caffè, negozi e strade pedonali, rendendolo un luogo ideale per fermarsi mentre si esplora il centro di Atene.
Questa bella e vivace piazza era la sede del mercato dei fiori della città. Rimangono solo un paio di venditori di fiori, poiché il resto è stato sostituito da caffetterie e ristoranti, diventando uno dei luoghi più alla moda della città. Facile da raggiungere, non importa da dove vieni, autonomo e pacifico, senza fastidioso traffico, la fiorente piazza brulica di vita quasi tutte le ore del giorno. Ci godremo una prelibatezza speciale di Creta, una torta come nessun'altra. Si chiama Sfakiani ed è sottile come una crêpe con formaggio morbido dentro e miele sopra! Menu di esempio: Rakomelo: questa famosa bevanda mista alcolica è realizzata combinando Raki (un brandy aromatizzato all'uva), con miele e spezie calde come cardamomo, cannella ed erbe locali.
Esempio di menu: l'ultimo dessert del cibo di strada greco: Loukoumades, alias "bignè al miele" nel posto migliore da 100 anni. La via Aiolou è una storica strada centrale asfaltata che collega piazza Omonia con via Ermou. Il suo nome deriva dall'antico dio greco dei venti, Eolo. Costruita nel 1833, la via Aiolou è una delle strade più antiche di Atene.
Visita il vivace mercato del pesce e della carne all'aperto della città! Menu di esempio: Souvlaki, il nostro street food nazionale. Ci sono centinaia di posti Souvlaki, ma una manciata di quelli davvero buoni. Ti prenderemo per uno dei più deliziosi, autentici e acclamati!
Menu di esempio: formaggi greci DOP (destinazione di origine protetta), carni uniche come pastourma e Tsipouro. La Mecca dei negozi di spezie ed erbe aromatiche di Atene. Le piccole imprese a conduzione familiare sono state l'ancora di salvezza di questa strada per decenni, rendendola la prima tappa di qualsiasi ateniese interessato al cibo. Formaggi greci DOP (Destinazione di Origine Protetta) e salumi unici. Tsipouro, un popolare distillato d'uva reso puro o profumato all'anice. Viene servito come benvenuto agli ospiti, come accompagnamento al meze o come combustibile per le risate tra vecchi amici nei caffè di tutta la Grecia.
Psyri o Psiri è centrale, alla moda e non convenzionale! È un colorato quartiere neoclassico noto per i suoi artigiani, negozi specializzati, ristoranti, bar, taverne (con o senza musica dal vivo), teatri, negozi d'arte e antiquariato, oltre a un piccolo numero di hotel.
Menu di esempio: degustazione di miele greco. 3 varietà deliziose distinte. Piazza Kotzia è circondata da graziosi edifici neoclassici tra cui l'antico municipio. qui si trova anche un piccolo sito archeologico (dove è visibile l'impianto idrico della città risalente a 2000 anni fa) recentemente portato alla luce in seguito agli scavi per il parcheggio sotterraneo.
Situato all'ombra dell'Acropoli, il quartiere di Monastiraki è una miscela di stili architettonici, epoche e culture, adiacente ai quartieri di Psyri, Plaka e Thisio. Piazza Monastiraki è una delle piazze più incantevoli di Atene, essendo sede di ristoranti, caffetterie, negozi, il famoso mercato delle pulci e tanta storia antica. Nella piazza si può ammirare la Chiesa sommersa di Pantanassa, unica parte rimasta del monastero (o meglio convento di suore) che esisteva in loco durante il periodo bizantino e che ha dato il nome alla zona (Monastiraki significa piccolo monastero). Ma per molti Monastiraki è soprattutto sinonimo di antiquariato e vecchi tesori grazie ai mercatini delle pulci e ai negozi di antiquariato che costellano la zona verso Piazza Abissinia.

What a fantastic food tour. We went to several places but never felt like it was too much or too little. Eva taught us about each bite and the history of the recipes as well as how locals cook these staple items. Eva made this tour everything we hoped it could be - walking, history, culture, understanding and food as part culture. We had high expectations for this tour based on reviews and those were exceeded by the places we visited, but mostly because of Eva. She has that extra something special that makes it feel like you are learning about each neighborhood and food with a friend. Will be recommending this tour to anyone we know going to Athens!
We took a food tour with Valentini in August of 2026. We had a wonderful time and visited venues that we would not have found on our own; we learnt so much about culture and history and food! Valentini has a passion for great quality food, and she knows where to find the best and most authentic vendors. I really appreciated how woderfully balanced the tour was. I felt engaged, entertained, but also relaxed. Walking and sitting and sampling food (with access to facilities) was tailored to our needs and abilities, so we never felt tired. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Athens.

Cannot recommend this tour enough. It was our favorite during a two week trip to Greece, and maybe our favorite ever. You will not only learn about the food (also receive detailed information shared later via email), you also hear about the traditions, history, etc. Katarina was an absolute pleasure to be with and was proactive about a food allergy, including bringing alternative options at every stop. Vanna (Val) gave a FANTASTIC 5 Star tour. It was not only an incredible food tour but also a tour through Greek history, culture and architecture! For me the highlights included tastings of halva in a store selling all natural Halva (and other products) in many different flavors; seeing and learning how authentic Greek coffee is made, Olive oil tasting and explanation about the types of olive oil and of course souvlaki at the best soulvlaki restaurant in Athens (Really!) complete with an explanation of the history of souvlaki and how it is prepared. We arrived to Athens at 11:30 AM after an overnight flight. This food tour was the best activity to kick off our two night stay. Our hotel room was not ready and this was the perfect way to spend the afternoon tasting delicious Greek food and learning about the culture. Highly recommend Valentini as a guide, she was wonderful.
