Costruita in stile neobizantino, è una delle più grandi cattedrali ortodosse orientali del mondo, nonché uno dei simboli di Sofia e una delle principali attrazioni turistiche.
Il progetto di questo edificio in stile neoclassico, opera dell'architetto viennese Friedrich Schwanberg, fu realizzato nel periodo compreso tra il 1881 e il 1883.
Con i suoi 8,5 milioni di documenti, la Biblioteca nazionale "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" è il più grande tesoro librario della Bulgaria. I visitatori potranno ammirare mostre temporanee al suo interno. La collezione di libri antichi, rari e preziosi comprende un totale di circa 17.000 volumi di libri e periodici stampati nel periodo dal XV al XXI secolo. I materiali sono organizzati in collezioni separate.
L'edificio che ospita l'Assemblea nazionale è di importanza storica ed è un monumento culturale. Fu costruito nel 1884-1886 su progetto dell'architetto Constantin Yovanovic
L'Università di Sofia "St. Kliment Ohridski" e la Biblioteca nazionale "St. Cyril and Methodius" si trovano vicino al Ponte delle Aquile. L'università è stata fondata il 1° ottobre 1888. Dal lunedì al venerdì i visitatori possono anche ammirare la straordinaria sala centrale con le grandi vetrate colorate.
Fondato più di 140 anni fa, è diventato uno dei centri commerciali più importanti della città metropolitana. Ogni giorno circa 60.000 persone visitano il mercato di Zhenski Pazar. Il mercato si trova nella cosiddetta Area di Tolleranza a Sofia. Il nome stesso è stato coniato dopo la stretta vicinanza dei templi di tutte le comunità religiose ufficiali in Bulgaria. Qui puoi trovare la chiesa "Santi Cirillo e Metodio", la moschea "Banya bashi" e la sinagoga centrale di Sofia.
Il primo muro di fortificazione di Serdica fu eretto nella seconda metà del II secolo d.C. Aveva una larghezza di 2,20 m. Alla fine del III, inizio del IV secolo d.C., fu intrapresa una ristrutturazione del muro e fu scavato un fossato di fronte ad esso - 14 m a ovest della porta occidentale a circa 2 m di profondità e 5 m di larghezza, funzionante nel IV secolo.
L'antico complesso culturale e comunicativo "Serdica" unisce aree con scopi diversi, divise in due zone. La zona "Largo", situata sotto Piazza Nezavisimost, integra i resti archeologici dissotterrati in un sito per eventi culturali. Qui si possono vedere i resti di una delle due strade principali della città romana, il decumanus maximus, che collega la porta orientale e quella occidentale della città. A sud di esso si può vedere un grande edificio residenziale, che copre un'intera insula (isolato urbano). L'edificio aveva anche piccoli negozi, da cui i viaggiatori e gli abitanti della città potevano acquistare cibo e beni vari.
L'edificio della Sinagoga Centrale di Sofia è giustamente descritto come l'orgoglio della comunità ebraica bulgara. È una delle tre più grandi sinagoghe sefardite (ebraiche spagnole) in Europa e la più grande della penisola balcanica.
I visitatori andranno a vedere le sorgenti termali naturali della città - 46 gradi Celsius L'attuale edificio dei Bagni minerali centrali è stato progettato nello stile della Secessione viennese, ma integrando elementi ornamentali tipicamente bulgari, bizantini e ortodossi orientali, dagli architetti Petko Momchilov e Friedrich Grünanger nel 1904-1905 e approvato il 30 gennaio 1906, come progetti di un austriaco (nel 1889)
Fu costruita su iniziativa e con il supporto finanziario del Mullah Effendi Kada Seyfullah ed è anche conosciuta come Moschea Mollah Effendi. Fu progettata dal famoso architetto ottomano Mimar Sinan, che costruì anche la moschea del sultano Selim a Edirne e la moschea di Solimano a Istanbul. A causa del numero 974 sopra l'arco d'ingresso, si ritiene che la moschea sia stata costruita nel 974, l'Egira (calendario islamico) o nel 1566-1567 d.C.

Peter is super nice and very knowledgeable, and I really appreciated that he still continued the tour even though I was the only traveller - thank you Peter xx Being a real ‘foody’ I was so excited, but unfortunately I was a bit disappointed, as I was really looking forward to a proper Bulgarian food experience. It felt a little rushed, with no slow-cooked traditional dishes or historical Bulgarian dive spots, except for the crafty little beer bar and Maya ‘the rakia lady’, which were definitely the highlight. For me the experience didn't match the price or the time involved, and I couldn’t help feeling it was a bit of a waste for both Peter and myself. I would recommend this tour for groups, but solo travellers should perhaps be told in advance and given the option to join when other travellers are booked. Wish you all the best Peter!

This food tour is a great way to see and experience Sofia! Highly recommend this tour, especially as a solo traveler. I was the only person on the tour and it was still held which I very much appreciated. This is a must-do in Sofia in my opinion.

My family (3) had a wonderful time touring with Peter! What I love about this tour is the fact that we went to restaurants that I would not have ever gone too (as I speak English and really struggle to understand Bulgarian even with a translation app). But going with a local to try authentic Bulgarian places with traditional dishes and regional drinks was perfect! Breaking bread with our small group brought Bulgarian, American, Scot, and New Zealand personalities and perspectives together to unpack the amazing history of the city Sophia and Bulgarian life. Food was delicious (come with an empty stomach!), time was right, we hopped on and off public transportation to enjoy the old neighborhoods…all in all I recommend making time for this one!

Peter was very prompt meeting us and the pick up point was easy to find. He was very interesting about the history and the food in Sofia which is a fascinating place. The kids were entertained and the tram rides were fun. It was an original way to see the city with a wonderful guide.

It was an excellent evening walking tour. Peter is an excellent guide, with deep knowledge and flair for sharing it. Peter planned well for the tram and metro ride with pre booked tickets which made it hassle free. He was patient with all queries especially from my inquisitive children. He took us to the National Library where he showed us the mystery 2060 book to be revealed in that year as a message to future generation. He made us explore the old and new parts of Sofia with elaborate explanations of architecture, culture and historic timeline. He also took us to Sofia info centre where we got a quick demo of Bulgarian Language, and Ms Monica was gracious to give us the pin badge of Bulgarian alphabets.
