Attended a fantastic rum tasting experience, and I can't say enough good things about our presenter Alejandra and the team. They were exceptionally knowledgeable, engaging, and brought incredible energy to the entire session. Instead of just pouring drinks, they walked us through the rich history, production methods, and subtle flavor profiles of each rum with genuine passion and wit. They made complex tasting notes accessible to everyone—from complete novices to seasoned rum lovers—and answered every question with enthusiasm. However, I do need to note a serious issue with the refreshments provided: three guests in our group experienced severe stomach problems afterward, which we traced back to the ice/water served during the session. Management definitely needs to look into their water filtration and ice sanitation immediately. Despite the unfortunate issue with the water, Alejandra's presentation itself was top-notch. If you get the chance to join a tasting led by her, don't pass it up—just stick to the neat pours! Cheers to an otherwise unforgettable evening!

We did our tour with Wendy and it was amazing. She was very friendly, patient and knowledgeable, I’m so grateful that she was our guide. I only speak English (but learning Spanish) and my boyfriend speaks a little bit of Spanish, so she did the tour in both languages so that I could practice. We had a great time, laughing talking and Shari g our love of rum and chocolate. We had the store to ourselves maybe because it was a slower day of the week; we went on Tuesday evening right before the World Cup game between the democratic Republic of Congo and Colombia. It was a great way to pregame that event in style. The rum was delicious, and there was a lot of variety in the age, notes and type, and she taught us all about the culture.

My husband and I chose Colombia as a honeymoon destination and we are so happy we went with it. Cartagena was the last stop on our trip and we didn’t think we’d be surprised, but, boy, were we wrong! The Rum Box is situated near the historical centre, conveniently between the hotel area and the gorgeous Getsemani neighbourhood, which allowed us to walk to it after we were done. We tried a total of 9 different beverages, started off with two types of Aguardiente and continued with a selection of rums. Our guide for the experience was Alejandra and she was indescribably fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable. We hit it off straight away (maybe because both our names were Ale ❤️) and she created such a relaxed, fun, engaging and entertaining atmosphere that we felt fully at ease and managed to completely unwind (and obviously get a little bit tipsy). She knew a lot about where rum comes from, the different barrels in which it is kept and aged, she paired each shot amazingly with both chocolate and small bites from the restaurant in the building across the street (basically the Rum Box is comprised of two buidings - the restaurant and the shop with a bar, where the tasting took place). Words are not enough to describe how warm, smiley, welcoming and friendly Alejandra was, it felt like I am out with a friend who knows a lot about rum rather than at a tour. I wasn’t much of a rum drinker before this, but my horizon has certainly broadened. If you do only one organized activity while in Cartagena, let it be this one, you won’t regret it!

Alejandra will absolutely love this she has a natural way of turning a tasting into something personal, easygoing, and full of connection (and we love that “Ale & Ale” moment). We’re also really happy you enjoyed the journey through aguardiente and rum, along with the pairings there’s so much history and character in every sip, and hearing that it changed your perspective makes it even more special for us. We had such a great experience with Alejandra during this tasting and would highly recommend! We tried 9 different rum/liquors and had a few snacks throughout. We learned a lot and drank a lot. If you’re interested in learning about Colombian rums then definitely book this tour!

My husband loved this experience for his birthday! We were easily able to walk to the location from our hotel in the walled city. The location was wonderful - the decor and staff super inviting. Our tour guide through the experience was Wendy - she is absolutely personable and a lot of fun!! Knowledgeable of the rums we tasted, the nibbles of food and chocolate in between tastings was phenomenal - Wendy gave us great suggestions to see and do in the city - and definitely made us alcoholics by the end of the tasting! 10/10 - recommending to everyone!
