Great trip

Thoroughly enjoyed this fascinating trip - few outside of Brazil know about Quilombos, and it's worth doing some homework on their incredible history beforehand. Very knowledgeable and helpful guide - a day we will not forget.

A great chance to learn about the history of Brazil and see what's outside Salvador – don't miss it!

This was a great experience – we learned a ton at Quilombo Kaonge and had an excellent tour guide (thanks Wilson!). The people there were extremely nice, the food was delicious, and it was a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the history of Afro-Brazilian culture. Would HIGHLY recommend!

Private Tour of Quilombos Kaonge e Dendê-definitely worth your time!

This tour was the highlight of my visit to Salvador. Once I signed up, Marcos was in contact with me to answer any questions. He advised me that Wilson would be the guide for the trip. During the trip to the quilombo, Wilson provided history lessons in both Spanish and English. Wilson is very knowledgeable in terms of history and ability to speak multiple languages, so rest assured he will be able to communicate with all of the guests. Prior to the arrival at Quilombos Kaonge and Dendê, we stopped at an open air market to stretch our legs and to do some shopping. After we finished there, we walked through the area to arrive at a church where our bus was waiting to take us to our destination. During our visit at the quilombo, we were introduced to our escort who spoke Portuguese and Wilson was there to translate. Our escort led us to meet first to an elder who spoke to us about her knowledge of herbs, then to another resident who explained how the dendê oil was made. We each had the opportunity to also help in the process. Next we went to see how grain was made and again we all had the opportunity to try our hands at this as well. Lastly, we ate a delicious lunch and had a chance to walk around on our own as well as purchase souvenirs, including the oil, food, and other items. The main points that stuck with me were the opportunities to meet with the residents that lived there, especially the elder who was 101 years old, and historical significance of the quilombos. Additionally, being there was extremely peaceful and tranquil in comparison to the hustle and bustle of Salvador. I would definitely recommend this tour and would return in the future during my next trip to Salvador.

Great way to visit a Quilombo in Bahia

This was a great experience visiting Santo Amaro and the Quilombo de Kaonge! We briefly passed through the town of Santo Amaro and learned about different foods and other things as we walked through the market and one of the churches. The guide, Milla, was amazing and really helped us learn about the place we were visiting. Once in the Quilombo, we learned about a few different ancestral practices before ending the day with a nice lunch. Overall, I really enjoyed this tour and I would highly recommend it!

A magical day exploring the Reconcavo

This tour was an excellent and efficient way to learn about the history and culture of the Reconcavo region. The guides were very knowledgeable. If I were trying to cover the same distance, amount of learning, and sights on my own, it would have taken mulitple days (if even possible at all). Having the guide was instrumental for me. I really enjoyed myself, learned a lot from the guides, and hope to go back to spend a few days in this region in the future. The tour was a really good initial visit!
