Excellent tour guide with lots of knowledge. Well planned yet provided some flexibility. Good choice for lunch and all parts of the tour. Highly recommend.
The Good We had a great experience on our excursion in Puerto Plata. The tour was well organized, the staff was friendly and professional, and everything ran smoothly from start to finish. The scenery was beautiful, and we really enjoyed learning more about the local culture and attractions. The Bad The cable car (the highlight of this tour) was not in service. The worker at the cable car station told me it has been out of service for about 2 years, but Viator doesn't specify this on the description. They will take you to the top of the mountain on a bus, and it will take 2.5 hours round-trip, consider that if you are short on time.
Marcelino was very good! He was waiting for us on time, always right there when we finished enjoying each stop. He was helpful to my 87-yr-old mother as she navigated steps, etc. and very knowledgeable. The only thing we were unhappy about was the stops that were NOT on the itinerary (Ambar mine museum and fort with people selling their wares at the end). These stops seemed to be made simply for us to tip the people there. 👎🏻
Great day of exploring but it cut it too close to boarding on my cruise. I was the last person to board with 2 minutes to spare! Other than that, Allen was a great guide and Mount Isabel was very nice. Very slippery steps and walkways! The cable car does not work and the road the transport vehicles use is very bumpy! Very interesting culture and some good birds for those who birdwatch.
Carlos was very knowledgable, thoughtful and friendly. He met us on Time and was ready to go. He wanted our tour to be what we wanted it to be and he exceeded in every way!!! We enjoyed every stop, especially the rum factory and the second chocolate tour. Best hot cocoa ever!!! The lunch was really tasty, which honestly we were hesitant about. Get the beans and rice! So basic but seasoned to perfection!!! Ask for Carlis if you want the great your we had!!!
Tour was great. Anthony was very knowledgeable about th hist6of thr places we visited and very engaging. The trip went smoothly and timely. We were informed of things before they happened. Food was very good, and our guide even shared an avocado with us. All in all, it was a wonderful experience and would recommend.
Our tour guide, Antonio, arrived at the resort on time to pick us up. He planned the site visits to minimize wait times and we did not wait in line at any of the sites. We had as much or as little time at each location as we wanted, and got to see everything we wanted to see. (We all could have spent longer at the botanical garden at the top of the mountain, but we had other places yet to see.) We were a group of 6, we started in a comfortable minivan. On the way up the mountain, the fan belt broke and the van overheated. Antonio had a colleague at the top of the mountain (who works at a shop at the top of the mountain) come pick us up in a truck to continue up the mountain - this was the most memorable part of the adventure for everyone! We were rescued within about 5 minutes, and our temporary guide was very kind. Both Antonio and his friend were very knowledgable and informative, and answered endless questions for us. They worked together very well to make sure we saw everything. We forgot a bag of souvenirs on the first van that broke down, and an associate drove back up the mountain to retrieve it for us and bring it to the hotel. The service was above and beyond expected, it was an amazing, fun, memorable and informative day for everyone. I highly recommend the private city tour!
Our tour guides were great! Having said that, this tour company needs work. We were on the Carnival Vista the week of 9/28-10/4/25. Our itinerary was changed due to storms. I have the written notice from Carnival as well as a screen shot of Atrium info board stating changes were due to weather. This company charged ud $144 to change our itinerary from 10/2 to 10/1! Their Trip Advisor ad states they will change reservations or issue a full refund, in this situation. No where does it state they will charge for this type of issue. BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE! Secondly, I called prior to booking to inquire if vehicle was handicap accessible for my wheelchair. It was NOT. I managed to get in minivan, I completed the tour without leaving the van. The tour guides did their best to bring me samples of items other members of my party tried. They brought my lunch to the vehicle. There was cold bottled water provided but there was NO soda or alcoholic beverages as ad states. Unfortunately upon exiting minivan I hyper-extended my right knee and my left was bent too far under me. The van was not close enough to the curb and I am very short and unable to walk more than a few steps. Be prepared for a LONG WALK, at least 20 minutes from pier to back gate. I gave 3 stars only because of our tour guides. Otherwise it would be lower rating.
We had a great time on this tour. Informative guide. Great experience in the city, delicious food. Tried several samples of drinks, coffee and chocolate.
The tour was amazing and enough time was allocated for each stop. The included lunch was delicious and you will not leave hungry.
