Nice. but. It what I expected.

The class was nice, but I didn't feel it was worth the cost. Most participants, including myself and my husband, knew our way around the kitchen and had cooking experience as we have prepared food all of our adult lives. I did not feel like I learned about the "soul" of Portuguese cooking ; about what makes it unique and special. Upon starting, there was one bottle of wine for twelve of us to split until dinner. The location is a bit out of the way as well. If you are looking for an authentic- learning from/in grandma's kitchen this is not the class.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. While we fully respect that every guest is entitled to their opinion, we do feel it is important to clarify a number of factual inaccuracies contained in your review. Firstly, our public cooking classes are limited to a maximum of 10 participants, not 12 as stated. Secondly, we were genuinely surprised by your comment regarding the wine. Throughout every class, wine is served continuously during both the cooking session and the meal, and we routinely open multiple bottles whenever needed. This is one of the aspects most frequently praised by our guests and simply does not reflect the experience we provide. As for the recipes, whether someone enjoys a particular dish is naturally subjective. However, suggesting that they lack authenticity or quality is something we respectfully disagree with. Our menus have been carefully developed over more than 13 years, are rooted in traditional Portuguese home cooking, and have been enjoyed by tens of thousands of guests from all over the world. It also seems that your expectations were for a very different type of experience, specifically what you describe as "learning in grandma's kitchen." While we completely understand that this may have been your personal preference, this is not how our experience is presented. Our goal is to offer an authentic, hands on Portuguese cooking class in a professional environment, while sharing the stories, traditions and techniques behind each recipe. We always welcome constructive feedback, as it helps us improve. However, we also believe it is important that reviews accurately reflect the experience that was actually offered. We would encourage future readers to consider this review alongside the thousands of reviews shared by guests who have enjoyed this same experience over the past 13 years. We remain incredibly proud of the consistency, authenticity and hospitality that have made Cooking Lisbon one of Portugal's highest rated culinary experiences.

Angela was a great host....

Angela was a great host. I enjoyed taking this class. After being on vacation for the last 8 days it was nice to get in the kitchen and cook a homemade meal. I can’t wait to go home and make this for my family.

A fun evening and a delicious meal

Renata was a great instructor and chef. She explained our cooking process and got everyone involved. We made several dishes including peri peri chicken, Bacalhau, caldo verde soup and many side dishes. Dessert was amazing as well. Our class chatted with each other while we cooked which made for a fun evening.

Wouldn’t recommend. Fried food to cater to American travelers. Told if I had anything bad to say to not leave a review.

This took place a while ago, but it’s taking me some time to leave a review because the instructor said to not say anything negative in a review. My experience was negative. I went as a solo female by myself. The class was all older women except for one older male who is married to one of the women. All the older women would chat amongst themselves, and I felt excluded due to being mid 20s. I think the man in the group saw this and decided to have a conversation with me as he was also excluded from the group of women. One of the women obviously got jealous that her husband was talking to me and started doing catty things like take pictures of me and him (telling us to pose and smile) acting as though she wanted to “save the memory”. It was all very odd and she would say thing like “gee you really like eachother”. The instructor did nothing. The instructor was very belittling to me. He could see that I was clearly by myself and whenever I tried to talk to somebody would cut me off and tell me to pay attention. I did not learn any cooking skills. He belittled me for not knowing what serate the knife meant. Most of the food was fried that we cooked and by the time we ate it, it was all cold. I was told at the end of the experience that if I didn’t have anything positive to say to not leave a review. I think that it’s unprofessional to try to silence somebody’s opinion.

Dear Shayla, Thank you for your feedback. We were quite surprised to receive your review more than a year after your visit, particularly as it raises concerns that were never brought to our attention at the time, when we would have been in a position to properly address them. At Cooking Lisbon, we welcome a very diverse mix of guests every day, including many solo travellers, and creating a friendly, relaxed and inclusive environment is at the core of our experience. While we are sorry to hear that you felt uncomfortable, your description does not reflect the atmosphere that is consistently experienced and shared by the vast majority of our guests. Regarding the instructor, our team is trained to guide the class in a structured and engaging way, ensuring that everyone can follow along safely and get the most out of the experience. Redirecting attention to the cooking process is sometimes necessary in a hands-on environment, but it is never intended to single out or diminish any participant. Concerning the situation described with other guests, these are personal interactions within the group that are neither directed nor influenced by our team. Naturally, had any discomfort been brought to our attention during the class, we would have immediately stepped in to support and ensure a positive experience for everyone involved. We would also like to clearly clarify that we never discourage guests from leaving honest reviews. On the contrary, we actively encourage open and transparent feedback, as it is essential for maintaining the high standards we are known for. Finally, our classes are designed so that guests prepare and enjoy the dishes together. While some recipes may involve frying, we take care to manage timing so that food is enjoyed in the best possible conditions. While we regret that your experience did not meet your expectations, we remain confident in the quality, professionalism and welcoming atmosphere that define Cooking Lisbon and that are reflected in the feedback from thousands of guests each year. Kind regards, Cooking Lisbon Team

Delicious DIY dinner with Chef Catarina

Three courses doesn't describe it. Chef Catarina had a station/cutting board for each of us and we made lots of salads, sauces, mayonnaise, tempura, cod, chicken, gizzards, tomato rice, and a "floating cloud" dessert. The wines and appetizers kept us going and we had a blast. A birthday was celebrated. The night was a huge success.

As described and better. History, demonstration, eating, drinking, and just a great activity to celebrate Portugal
