We spontaneously had a great evening! Tharu is a very dear and personable woman who has guided us very well and we have prepared a wonderful Curry & Rice with her help.
It was a really nice and cozy experience. We were cooking in the outside kitchen, next to Tharu’s home. Tharu and her family were super welcoming! We cooked 10 dishes with fresh ingredients, a lot of vegetables came from her own garden. After the cooking we got to eat it the dishes, and it tasted delicious. She gave us the ingredient list for the curry’s at the end of the class, so we can try and make them at home. Definitely would recommend this cooking class!!
This was a trip highlight! Tharu and her family were super accommodating and welcoming. We had a vegan with us, which was no issue (only one of the meals had animal products), and I think would also be easy if you were gluten free :) They were able to collect us from our hotel which made things really easy. We were a group of four adults, but I think you could definitely do with kids - provided they are okay with chopping veggies. The food was lovely and we left with great new skillls (and great recipes) for cooking at home!
Was a lot of fun. We were picked up at our guesthouse. Got a tour of the garden. And we cooked delicious (if we say so ourselves)!
With local ingredients, it made the fresh food even better. The food was incredible and we got to eat it after our hard work. We had local herbal tea at the beginning before we started the cooking. Could have been easy to have a copy of all curries cooked as we had to type all the ingredients on a phone
Brillissima experience, very friendly staff, allows you to get closer to the way of life of a beautiful family. Quality products and really fun and interesting course. at the end dinner all around a table completes a unique experience Super recommended
A super fun experience to have to make 9 dishes in a short time. First all preparations such as peeling / cutting onion and garlic, aubergines, mango etc. Then cook/stew/bake everything....delicious! Highly recommended
An exceptional cooking class, laid back, friendly and we made and ate the best food of our holiday. The class takes place in the garden of the family home and you are made to feel part of the family. Highly, highly recommended
Tharu’s cooking class is absolutely amazing. I did the class with two friends and we had the best time. Tharu is a really good chef. She and her husband have a beautiful kitchen in their garden. Her husband first gave us a tour of their garden with all the things they grow there. Then we prepared the most delicious curry I’ve ever had with all kinds of delicious fresh ingredients. Tharu and her husband are really nice people. Definitely take a cooking class with them if you’re in Sigiriya!
The experience was great. What a good cooking lesson this couple gave. And what a good use of time this was on this Sunday afternoon that it had been raining for more than a day and a half! The extra good thing about this cooking class was that we had to perform all 4 actions! Sometimes at the same time, sometimes in turn. And the explanation was excellent!! And... what a lot of curries we made and then we feasted deliciously. Also nice that we were picked up by their tuktuk during our stay and we did not have to go through the impervious puddles, because there was a lot of land under water. Unfortunately their own garden too... so we couldn't pick the curryleaves and pendan leaves from their own garden... Thank you dear people! Wim and Jolande
