The bus driver is the same person that is the “tour guide” for this tour. The tour is advertised on Viator as 8 hours but the driver said it never goes over 6. Each stop was rushed. We weren’t advised where we were going or what the stop was just told when to be back on the bus. The only stop the “tour guide” participated in us in was the lava stop. And the couple of people that chose to go in the Myvatn natural baths were not able to see the caves as that is what the rest of the bus did when they did the baths. The tour description said nothing about that. The bus driver / tour guide didn’t provide much information about what we were seeing except when specifically asked a question. And before the tour the man at the booth foe this company got in a name calling argument with the vendor next to him. Not professional and not a good way to start the tour. This company needs to make a number of improvements.
Excellent day out. Very informative and an enjoyable day packed with knowledge and funny anecdotes. A good tour guide makes all the difference and Gisli was brilliant!
The tour is a good one for those arriving at the port of Akureyri . The pickup was seamless. Our visit to Lake Myvatn , where there are midges, gave us an opportunity to see the Earth Lagoon and a lunch break at the cafeteria there. We had the very delicious smoked trout on lava bread. The lava fields (sulfur) were amazing as was the landscape of the Dark Forest. It was also interesting to see the rift that divides Eurasia and North America. Our guide and driver were very good.
We had a great time. Our tour guide, Graham was very informative. Unfortunately, the bus he was driving only had one temperature, Hot, so it was a little uncomfortable on the bus. I would highly recommend this tour.
Great tour of multiple sites in the area. Lots of variety—lava fields, steam vents, lake views, and amazing Godafoss. Quite a lot of walking but guide allows plenty of time. Good commentary along the way. Terrific scenery on our lucky sunny day!
What an absolute fantastic tour in a comfortable van. Bigi was great at telling us relevant facts, interesting stories and yet not feeling like he had to entertain us every minute of the drive. We had adequate time at each site to wander if we wished or to hang out at an overlook or gift shop. We stopped at a market so we could buy snacks and sandwiches without fighting the crowds at the main tourist sites. We even got to see how the locals bake their bread with heat from the thermal features. We had extra time at the end for a drive through old town, past the botanical gardens and other sites. All of this was while making sure to return the group to our cruise ship at the right time. We highly recommend this tour.
We had a change of tour the day before, to a slightly later one, which turned out good as our ship was late to dock. The guide Daniel was really good. Very funny without being even in the slightest controversial. Loads of information, good delivery. I did think we would be able to bathe, but unsure if that was only the earlier tour, as there was no mention of this and frankly no time to do it anyway. We both really enjoyed the tour
A recommended excursion; the guide was very friendly and enthusiastic.
I highly recommend this tour. Weather prevented us from having more than a single day in Akureyri, and this day-tour enabled us to see most everything we wanted in a day that was full but not rushed. Our guide, Aaron, was wonderful and provided a depth of information on Iceland's nature, history, and contemporary politics. In addition to seeing all of the sights, with excellent descriptions, we also received an education on Icelandic culture, and especially on how it is expressed in the north. The guide was flexible to our needs, and we had adequate time to explore on our own at most of the sites we visited. We could not have asked for more from this trip, we loved each location, but really it was the guide, with his detailed descriptions and discussion of northern Iceland, who made it so wonderful and special. This is an exceptional tour, whether you have only a single day in Akureyri or if you want an overview of the places in the region for further exploration. Thank you for such a wonderful experience. It was a great way to end our trip to Iceland.
Great trip. Well worth it! Driver/guide Graham, friendly and knowledgable. Stand out for us were the mud pools at Hverir. Fab day!
