I came across this place looking for something to do with a gap in activities. I wasn’t sure what to expect but thought I’d give it a go. It wasn’t your crisp, clean type of reserve and didn’t have lots of things but what it did have ticked the boxes. I saw blue butterflies, the main frogs you read about in Costa Rica, snakes & crocodiles. Sebastian greeted me at reception and accompanied me for the frogs and snakes section. He was fantastic, really informative and took the time to help me find all the animals which were hiding, giving me the facts and the time to take photos. He answered my many questions with pleasure & made the experience what it was. I wouldn’t have seen as much without his guidance. On my little stroll back through the trails to the car I came across a trail of ant cutters doing their job, this was quite incredible so keep your eyes peeled!
We had to wait about 40 minutes at the park entrance. Because our booking and payment could not be found. We had presented the receipt of payment. Employees are friendly but helpless about the mismanagement. We advise against booking this tour in advance. The park is medium-sized and partly unkempt. Staff friendly and endeavoured.
Quiet experience with visualization of various species of frogs, American crocodiles, blue butterflies, snakes The naturalist guide Noélia showed a lot of knowledge, patience and helped us photograph the little frogs. It was possible to pay half entry as a student and 60+
Honestly I was disappointed with the butterfly, because they were very few butterflies and we only managed to see two species, besides that the place seemed a little neglected. It's good to know that the crocodiles they have were rescued and they can be safe there. We could see several species of birds and the trails were in good condition. The best part was the frogs and snakes part, where our guide Isaac helped us locate a sloth and then showed us and gave us information about each of the species they have, as well as helping us to take pictures of the amphibians. Apart from his kindness, he was very knowledgeable about frogs and snakes. Thank you very much Isaac!
It can be a little expensive, but they see it being invested to take care of the animals. Well guided by Noelia, nice walk to meet.
Excited to go as this was just down the road from the hotel. If we could give 0 stars we would. No frogs in the habitats. Extremely run down enclosures. Told there would be a guide to show us frogs and no one showed. Trails under maintenance. Incredibly disappointing. Don’t waste your time or money.
Mar Lopez was amzing. So knowledgeable and friendly. Great time with the kids and family !!! Animals were amazing and we will definitely do it again
The butterfly garden and frog and snake displays were fantastic! We could never have spotted the frogs without the guide,MSO despite her limited English we really appreciated her input! The rest of the park was pretty tired looking, and no sloths or monkeys to be seen. Good place to see a few crocs and an alligator and a few turtles though. We were fascinated by several convoys of leaf-cutter ants along the nature trail.
One of the biggest disappointments in Costa Rica! It could have already discouraged us that they only accept dollars, and when paying 88 dollars, they don’t have change for 100 dollars. Although this wasn’t an entirely unsolvable issue, the real problem arises when you pay 88 dollars and see only about 10 butterflies. ☹️ It felt like quite a scam to me. 🤔 The only redeeming part was the goose with goslings, but when you visit a butterfly house, that’s really not enough. 🤦🏼♂️ I definitely do not recommend this place. The entrance fee is 22 dollars per person, and you really see nothing.
Super recommended!! We got Ashly as a guide, and the truth that made our visit very enjoyable. The best he is Aryan, explained everything about the different species and gave us a hand with the theme photos. We were lucky enough to see a sloth at large inside the park. It's worth going to have some fun. It is also not a crowded park and you can walk with all the calm. Pure life!
