Un passaggio attraverso la vecchia piazza del mercato dove si tenevano tutte le attività tra cui la vendita di schiavi, la punizione degli schiavi, la vendita di cibo e ora la vendita e l'esposizione di lavori artistici e artigianali.
Il Centro Culturale Old Mill è stato inizialmente utilizzato per la produzione di zucchero e rum fino al crollo dell'industria dello zucchero Dominica. Nel 1964, la tenuta fu venduta al governo della Dominica. Nel 1976, una parte del mulino fu assegnata al National Arts Council, che lo trasformò in un centro culturale con l'aiuto di una sovvenzione della British Development Division.
Dominica Coconut Products, fondata negli anni '60 da Phillip Nassief, si è evoluta nel corso degli anni e opera sotto il nome di DCP Colgate-Palmolive Company. È diventata una pietra angolare dell'industria manifatturiera caraibica del sapone e contribuisce in modo significativo all'economia e al commercio regionale della Dominica.
Situata a Salisbury appena fuori dalla principale autostrada della costa occidentale, questa tenuta ha una storia che risale agli anni prebellici, la principale distilleria di rum della Dominica ha visto alti e bassi. La tenuta Macoucherie appartiene alla famiglia Shillingford da diverse generazioni ed è ora l'unica distilleria (ufficiale) dell'isola a produrre rum dalla canna locale. Non qualsiasi canna tuttavia è all'altezza del lavoro - Macoucherie utilizza solo quello coltivato nella sua tenuta. Produrre 10.000 litri all'anno, e fino a quattro tipi di rum in bottiglia, è una grande operazione. Ma i processi sono essenzialmente gli stessi dell'operazione su piccola scala che produce il chiaro di luna.
Fort Shirley fa parte del Cabrits National Park nel nord della Dominica e può essere considerato il sito storico più importante della Dominica ed è stata la scena della famosa rivolta dell'8 ° Reggimento dell'India occidentale nel 1802. Gli inglesi intrapresero la maggior parte della costruzione del Forte, ma i francesi apportarono importanti aggiunte durante la loro occupazione della Dominica dal 1778 al 1784. Insieme accumularono un presidio composto da un forte, sette batterie di pistole, sette cisterne, caricatori di polveri, magazzini di ordigni, panetterie, forgia di ferro, caserme e altri alloggi degli ufficiali per ospitare e fornire oltre 600 uomini in servizio regolare insieme al loro personale di supporto di artigiani e schiavi.

Lennerd was a great guide! He’s very knowledgeable about his country and the various plants and trees that grow here. I Thank him for going above and beyond for accommodating us during the low travel season! And yes I can identify a Mango tree LOL O’Jolly did an awesome job on our Indian River tour. We were able to point out various crabs and fish and the site from a famous movie! Mid way tour you are treated to a hidden bar with great music. A total scene!
Lenard is amazing tour guide!!! He’s super kind, professional and caring!!! You can tell he loves his job and he’s super passionate and always trying to make sure we are good. He gave us a lot information and fun facts about Dominica and we enjoyed hiking, visiting, talking and having lunch with him. Indian lake is def the highlight of the tour. It is so beautiful and stunning (we saw many rare birds and white crab and blue crab!!!) and our captain Anjali is amazing person. I highly recommend this tour to all tourists visiting Dominica!!!
Ajahlie was an excellent guide! He knew how to adapt to the fact that he had to translate into French and therefore took the time to explain things well. He speaks Creole, so it's very practical! He was very knowledgeable about the history, the local fauna, and the flora. With him, you never get bored. Careful on the road, he explained to us the origin of the names and the history of each town we passed through. The boat trip was magnificent! Very welcoming guide and good navigator.
Lennard was a great tour guide. Started at Fort Shirley. Unfortunately this foet was completely remodeled for a concert/eedding/party venue, so the history is lost, but the guide tour really helped us picture what was there. Next we went to Cold Soufriere sulfur springs which was very interesting, you could hear the gas escaping the rocks. Our last adventure of the day after a great lunch at water's edge was a row down Indian River. Beautiful scenery and animals along the way.
yet another great day out with Waitukubuli Adventure Tour Co. Where we had a private tour with Hubert previosuly, this trip was with Tiffany (Hubert's better half). Having spent a day with each it's obvious why they found each other in their private life too ;) This was another amazing trip. A good hour drive from Roseau up to Portsmouth through beautiful surrounfings, great stories and Points of Interest from Tiffany. First stop was Cold Soufriere. As here is work being done we could only see the bubbles from a short distance. So much to see though, on to Fort Shirkey which is a really impressive site and the resoration is even more inpressive. Great lunch at Water's Edge in Portsmouth and then the Indian River tour. Unfortunately Tia Dalma wasn't home but her house still stands! Tiffany is full of interesting stories about colurfull characters, places, houses etc and the day will fly by all too quickly. So thanks, 2 trips to cherish.
