Our family of eight had a wonderful experience on an evening food tour in Mdina and Rabat. Chris was an exceptional guide! We also appreciated the excellent service from the owner of My Dream Malta who accommodated us with this tour at the last minute. Highly recommend!
I wish I had read the reviews more closely. As other reviewers have said, this is most definitely NOT a tour with a 3 course meal. Snacks in shady places would be a better description. In addition, our tour guide, Bridget, went on several xenophobic rants, was rude to my husband, and could not pick up on social cues. Worst tour we have been on in many years.
Tour operator canceled at the last moment due to ‘illness’ Offered to rebook to different date but was very slow to communicate and confirm any alternative plans. Don’t book with them - they likely disappoint you
Hi Yuliya, Yes unfortunately the guide for your tour couldn't make it and we provided an alternative date. We confirmed this within a few hours. Unfortunately for this tour not all guides can do food tours, so sometimes this unfortunately can happen(we state in the booking page) Thanks
Catherine was a brilliant guide and told us lots of interesting facts about Mdina. We loved seeing the city at night and the food we had was all delicious and tasty. Would highly recommend this tour 🫶🏻
We are happy to hear you enjoyed it! we look forward to welcoming you again :)
What a great introduction to Malta. Lorraine was our guide and was welcoming, attentive, and overall excellent. We felt very taken care of. Walking in the evening is magnificent, with everything lit up. Food was great. Highly recommend to anyone, and even if you went to Mdina in daytime, do it at night also.
We are happy to hear you enjoyed it! we look forward to welcoming you again :)
I had very high hopes based on the reviews for this private tour, but ended up very disappointed overall. First off, we were picked up in Valletta for an extra fee, which was fine, but our driver to Mdina knew nothing of our tour or who we were meeting or where. He dropped us off a Mdina and drove away, leaving us with no way to contact our guide. Fortunately, we found her a few minutes later. She was very, very nice and quite knowledgeable. As a native Maltese, the best part of the tour was talking to her about Malta culture, history, language, and life in Malta. She gets 5 stars. But the food was the issue. As a history and food tour, I assumed that this tour would be geared more for foodies, looking to explore authentic food. And, yes, while we did that - to a degree - it wasn't of the quality we had hoped, and certainly not for €400. The first place was a cute street pastizzi place, where we had 2 pastizzi and a soda. Maybe €15 tops. That was fine. Then we walked through Mdina, which was informative, and stopped at a packed restaurant to have cake. Cake?? What about dinner? The cake was merely OK, and we didn't actually want it, but we didn't have a choice. €8.40. We passed a number of restaurants in converted homes that looked quite nice and delicious, but no, we walked all the way to Rabat and our guide took us to a sports bar. Fluorescent lights. Cheap tables, no ambiance. We were literally the only people in the place. Sadly, there was a very nice looking restaurant directly downstairs, but that's not where we ate. They served us a typical Maltese salad (olives, sundried tomatoes, sausage, beans, pea paste, pan con tomate) and a glass of wine. €25, maybe. Almost everything was insanely salty. Then our guide left, saying that our driver would pick us up across the street. We were a bit shocked. We ate our food in the empty restaurant, and then our driver called saying he was at the Mdina gate and where were we?? He was nice enough to come get us and he actually ended up being the highlight of the tour, as he gave us wonderful suggestions for food and wine in Valletta and beyond. Thanks for that! So we paid nearly €400 for €50 worth of OK food and a nice walking tour of Mdina. Nope, not worth it. Sorry, I wish I could say otherwise.
Good morning Tony, we are sorry to hear you feel this tour is not value for money. Please keep in mind also that the private version of this tour is part of the costs as well. We hope to welcome you again and offer you a better experience. Chris
This is advertised as a bus tour with food along the way and multiple stops. What I received was a walking tour of Valletta and street food from food trucks. 2 strawberries from a street market. and one glass of wine. it was not as advertised. and WAY OVERPRICED for what we received.
Hi Sylvia, We are sorry you didn't like our private tour. We never advertise this as a bus tour, it clearly is described as a walking food tour. We are sorry you didn't understand this. Apart from that we never had complaints about our local street food as that is part of the food tour and ofcourse you have to take into consideration this is a private tour. We are sorry you didn't enjoy it.
The food tour was wonderful and our guide was fantastic. Perfect blend of Malta history and food tasting. Truly enjoyed.
We are very happy to hear that! We hope to welcome you again in the future! Chris
The tour guide was excellent but some of the local foods were not available. My main reason for the the poor score was the administration of the service which was a disaster. It is unfortunate because it could have been much more enjoyable experience. Basically, Viator messed up the pickup location and I wasted time on the phone to salvage the situation. In the end the tour started an hour later and fortunately we had no other time commitments. If one had to make a boat departure it is possible the delay would have devastated the rest of your trip. What made matters worse Viator made me pay for a taxi to fix their error, whereas it clearly stated in my confirmation that all transfer expenditures were included. I strongly discourage anyone to consider using Viator and strongly recommend to avoid them.
Hi Richard, We are sorry you had this bad experience with viator but we are not related to them and therefore its unjust to put a bad review on our page because of it. if you can fix this it would be much appreciated as our part(the guide) seems to have been enjoyable for you :) Thank you!
Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the area. He was personable and made our experience very enjoyable.
We are very happy to hear that! We hope to welcome you again in the future! Chris
