Le grotte di Postumia sono le regine di tutte le grotte e quelle più note al mondo. È anche la maggiore attrazione turistica della Slovenia nonché uno dei più grandi monumenti carsici. È l'unico luogo al mondo dove il paesaggio sotterraneo può essere ammirato viaggiando a bordo di un treno elettrico. Il castello di Predjama, non lontano dalla grotta di Postumia, regna sull'area che circonda l'idilliaco villaggio di Predjama. Questo pittoresco, magnifico, ribelle, misterioso e inespugnabile castello è arroccato nel mezzo di una rupe alta 123 metri da oltre 800 anni. Il suo fascino romantico è ulteriormente enfatizzato dall'idilliaco fiume Lokva, che scompare in profondità sotto il castello. Il castello di Predjama, unico castello scavato nella roccia conservato in Europa, offre uno spunto di riflessione unico sulle tecniche di costruzione e sull'intraprendenza delle persone nel Medioevo, che vennero in questo luogo cercando un porto sicuro proprio all'entrata della grotta. Durante un assedio che ebbe luogo nel XV secolo, il castello servì come rifugio per il suo noto e famigerato proprietario: Erazem di Predjama. La leggenda sull'impavido barone ladrone Erazem, che rimase imbattuto fino a quando uno dei suoi servitori lo tradì, è ancora viva nella mente delle persone, suggestiva e affascinante come sempre. Fu questa dimora sicura che aiutò il coraggioso cavaliere a resistere agli assedianti senza troppe difficoltà per più di un anno.

We were on a cruise and wanted to see both the cave and inside the castle during our tour. The bus met us at the ship, and it was easy. The bus is nice, air conditioned and the guide, Vesna, kept us informed on the drive. The stop at the castle was great, and using your cell phone with their audio guide was helpful. Having your AirPods might make listening easier. We did feel a little rushed, and skipped over the last few stops in the castle to get back to the bus. Once on the bus, we waited 30 min while the guide looked for 2 passengers she thought were late. We left and made it to the cave, with around 45 min to eat or shop before our tour. We felt that was enough time, and wished we had more time at the castle. The cave tour was really excellent and they aren’t kidding that it is cold (50 F). We brought sweatshirts but wore shorts and were OK but you definitely need a jacket. The whole tour took 7 hours, and they did drop off a few people at the city center but otherwise drove us back to the ship. 4 stars only because we would have liked more time at the castle.
We visited the caves on August 13th, but keep in mind that the temperature inside is constant all year round at 10 degrees. Dressed in long pants and equipped with a backpack containing sweatshirts and jackets, we headed to the entrance where a small train will take you, in about 10 minutes, inside the caves where the walk will begin, which will last approximately 1 hour before taking the train back. The caves are very beautiful with an easy and simple path even for children.
Stephan was a wonderful and knowledgeable guide. Punctual and safe driver. Enjoyed the lessons in Trieste and Slovenian history along the way. Pleasant half day trip from Trieste.
It was a great experience to take home. Absolutely recommended! The guide was incredibly polite and attentive to translating, both in English and Italian. He told many things that were both educational but also fun.

We loved our guide, who is originally from Slovenia, and the driver! Great information en route, and very kind to me with limited mobility due to knee injury. Be aware of fast paced walking in cave, often uphill. Bring a jacket for cave, but chill air was so welcome in contrast to outdoor heat wave! Recommend this combined tour, especially because of our Guide!

Castle and caves are really amazing; plus I love the scenery driving to Slovenia ; it is so green and beautiful . We enjoyed our tour.
Since instructions for pickup were for specific time , should have been made aware there were pickups along the way .. thought it was a smaller group
Once in a lifetime experience. The castle very unique in every aspect. The caves were incredible especially the mini train ride inside to get you to the center of the cave.
