Descrizione

Emily Carr

With Our Visit to Vancouver Gallery we viewed the numerous works of E Carr with detailed informative background per grouping which helps in understanding and appreciating her work. We also saw thought provoking installations on our environment and man’s impact on it.

Imaginative

I’m not into “modern art” per se, but I am into expanding my mind and imagination. I felt pushed in a good way to see things differently. If I weren’t so tired, I would have spent more time at this beautiful museum - in particular the 3 screen film. The staff were extremely friendly and polite. Wonderful experience

Don't Bother

Not recommended for several reasons. Even the worst museum in Europe is a step up from this place. The price is $35 each and be warned the gallery is 4 floors but two are closed for maintenance and re exhibition. Information that was purposefully omitted when we purchased our tickets. We ended up spending a whole 20 ish minutes looking at the photographs on the walls and art that lacks any enthusiasm. In one of Canadas most populous cities this establishment needs to do better to say the least. So unless your looking to spend $4.50 a minute save your money and admire the street graffiti instead.

Must go for art lovers

I visited with my kids for a day’s activity, we had a good experience with modern and contemporary art. They had an art/paper activity for the kids on the 3rd floor which was memorable. All age groups are welcome to be creative here and the staff/ volunteers were super helpful. The exhibits had modern art creations along with beautiful paintings of First Nation, landscapes in vivid colours. There was a family tour at 2:00 to educate us on Emily Carr a renown artist from Canada. The place if for anyone who appreciates art and a must visit if you are in Vancouver.

For the building and works of Emily Carr

The gallery occupies a superb building and the interior architecture with its multicoloured staircase leading to the beautiful rotunda is also interesting. It contains mostly paintings by Emily Carr from all her periods but also some works by Canadian painters. You can eat there in a very pleasant way at the gallery bistro with a nice terrace.

Check ahead to find out what is on exhibit

Very disappointing because there wasn't any classical art on display nor any Emily Carr ( on tour). We didn't go in because we decided that 30$ /person was too expensive to see modern works.

Contemporary art only

It is best to be aware that there is no permanent collection at this gallery (despite it saying so on the website). There are only contemporary exhibitions, changed every 6 months. If this is not your thing, you will not enjoy the gallery. After discovering there was no permanent collection of BC/Canadian artists, I left after 5 minutes. I'm giving it 2 stars because the staff were kind enough to refund my ticket, and the gift shop is decent. If you enjoy contemporary art and are in Vancouver on a Tuesday, admission is by donation 5pm-8pm. I would recommend pre-booking a ticket to avoid the line.

Disappointed. Who comes up with this crap.

This was such a disappointment. The geometric art was very basic, not even on an elementary level. The native art was lovely. The other rooms were grotesque; morbid. I found similar art on the floor of a mall.

Identity over ability

Nice building with a few inspiring pieces, but much of what was on display is low quality propaganda pushing identity politics or mundane derivative works such as photos of goods on display in a Walmart, etc. Many of the explanations for the various works are the condescending and pretentious gibberish I would expect in a parody of contemporary art. I suggest taking a stroll through the Nordstrom across the street instead.

2nd worst art gallery I ever visited.

Bad. If it had not been for a half empty new art gallery in Brazil once Vancouver would have won the prize for least interesting art gallery ever visited globally. Highlights - none, maybe emily carr fledgling impressionism but even that seemed immature art. Nothing to say, which says it all.
