Gita di un giorno fuori da Vilnius per vedere i siti circostanti più interessanti, di epoche e periodi storici diversi. Storia, cultura e tradizioni saranno esplorate durante il tour. Da ottobre a fine aprile, il castello dell'isola di Trakai è chiuso il lunedì, la visita è solo dall'esterno. La visita al museo all'aperto di Rumsiskes è possibile tutto l'anno, ma l'ingresso all'interno di ogni casa è possibile da maggio a ottobre.

Inizieremo dal parco commemorativo di Paneriai, dove furono uccise migliaia di ebrei di Wilna.
Vedremo il castello medievale del XIV secolo sul lago, è possibile fare una gita in barca o pranzare nel tradizionale ristorante Karaim. Da ottobre a maggio il castello di Trakai è chiuso il lunedì, è possibile solo la visita all'esterno. Dicembre e gennaio Il castello di Trakai è chiuso il lunedì e il martedì, è possibile solo la visita all'esterno.
Dopo Trakai ci dirigeremo al museo all'aperto - Rumsiskes, uno dei più grandi musei etnografici all'aperto d'Europa che si estende su un'area di 195 ettari. Le mostre del museo hanno lo scopo di presentare le regioni etnografiche della Lituania, ovvero Dzūkija (Dainava), Aukštaitija (Highlands), Suvalkija (Sudovia), Žemaitija (Samogizia) e Lituania Minore, guardando alla fine del 18° secolo e prima metà del 20° secolo. Da ottobre a maggio l'esposizione museale all'aperto visita solo case dall'esterno, non sono aperte esposizioni interne.

Had a good day out with Domink, showing me the places.of interest... the highlight for me was Rumsiskes, unfortunately as it was out of season, the buildings were closed, but you could look in the windows..

A nice tour and a day of contrasts. The Rumsiskes museum was super interesting - it's essentially an open air museum with reconstructed traditional houses and buildings brought from all over Lithuania. Trakai Castle is a beautiful island castle and the surrounding village has nice restaurants to refuel and take a breath. Paneriai is a more sombre monument to the holocaust.
Picked up from hotel by guide, who had sent a message the previous day with his name and confirming pick-up time. Giving us the opportunity to reply back. Rumsiskes museum was large, and spread out with interesting gardens and well kept buildings. We stopped for a coffee in the ‘town’, which was much needed. Luckily we remembered to bring insect repellent! Staff were extremely friendly to non-Lithuanian speaking visitors. Our guide was knowledgeable and informative, he answered all our questions (regardless of their relevance). Then we went to Trakai Castle, where we had a quick lunch before the tour of the castle and surrounding views. Finally stopped at Paneriai holocaust park, which was heartbreaking. A full day of walking and information. In retrospect it might have been better to only do two of the sights rather than the three, as the day was long and crammed with information. We have Lithuanian heritage so maybe were more interested in details than other people.
