Duomo - Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore Il vero cuore di Firenze si trova in Piazza del Duomo -- Piazza del Duomo.. Qui puoi vedere lo spettacolare Duomo, il Battistero e il Campanile di Giotto nelle loro deliziose sfumature di verde salvia, bianco e rosa scuro. La vastità della cattedrale ti stupirà sicuramente, così come la bellezza della cupola del Brunelleschi, la cupola che è ancora una testimonianza del genio ingegneristico dell'architetto e dell'audace mecenatismo della famiglia Medici.
Questa piazza, alta sopra la città e dedicata allo scultore rinascimentale Michelangelo, regala allo spettatore un panorama mozzafiato di Firenze (sembra una grande cartolina) ed è il modo perfetto per iniziare la visita. Potrai ammirare il fiume Arno attraversato da Ponte Vecchio, lo splendido duomo che domina il paesaggio urbano, la chiesa di Santa Croce, la torre medievale di Palazzo Vecchio, al centro della piazza c'è una copia in bronzo del capolavoro di Michelangelo, la straordinaria scultura di Davide,.
Basilica Santa CroceDove sono sepolti personaggi famosi come Michelangelo, Machiavelli, Galileo e Rossini. La basilica, che è la più grande chiesa francescana del mondo, è molto famosa e decora le numerose cappelle. La caratteristica più interessante della chiesa è la gigantesca Stella di David che circonda la facciata.
Costruito nei pressi di un valico romano, il Ponte Vecchio fu fino al 1218 l'unico ponte che attraversava l'Arno a Firenze. Il ponte, come si vede oggi, fu costruito nel 1345 dopo che una violenta alluvione distrusse il precedente. Durante la seconda guerra mondiale le truppe tedesche distrussero tutti i ponti di Firenze, tranne questo. Tuttavia bloccarono l'accesso al ponte distruggendo i due edifici medievali ai suoi lati.
Piazza della Repubblica è stata una delle piazze principali di Firenze fin dall'epoca romana. L'attuale aspetto a pianta rettangolare con grandi edifici ottocenteschi è il risultato dell'ammodernamento urbanistico che subì Firenze quando era capitale d'Italia (1865-71: nello stesso periodo le antiche mura duecentesche che cingevano la città furono purtroppo demolita, per far posto a viali moderni più ampi).
Se si dovessero scegliere le immagini che meglio rappresentano Firenze, molto probabilmente ne verrebbero in mente due: la spettacolare cupola del Brunelleschi, un punto fermo dell'iconografia fiorentina, insieme a quella che è considerata una delle piazze più belle d'Italia: Piazza della Signoria.

The tour included visiting Florence and Pisa . Our guide Simone was very friendly and shared many interesting stories and facts about Italy and his family . The only problem we encountered was the tourists crowds, and the summer heat . I would recommend visiting very early in the morning. I loved Pisa ! Worth the visit .

One day in Florence/Tuscany is just not enough... but it was a great experience that has us craving to go back and spent some more time. Our guide/driver, Simone, was wonderful! We asked in advance to adjust the itinerary, since it was our anniversary and we wanted to do something a little special. We were able to add a stop at a vineyard in Tuscany for a wine tasting! During our first stop, in Pisa, Simone began messaging vineyards to verify availability and set the timing we wanted. We drove through Tuscany and he took several pictures of us at a viewpoint on the way to the vineyard. The experience at the vineyard was exquisite, including 7 wines and bread/olive oil for 40E per person. Florence is of course breathtaking, and while it was very hot, the weather was beautiful. We stopped at Piazza Michelangelo and had a few hours to walk around the city center, including the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio, and a delicious Italian lunch with spritzes.

Claudio was a fantastic driver! He showed us so many places near Florence and Piza that we didn't expect. He picked us up right at the port next to our ship and dropped us off on time. He was personable and knowledgeable of the area. Overall it was a great day in a comfortable vehicle. Highly recommend.

Our driver was very friendly and helpful. We were hoping to hear more information about the areas we passed. It wasn't an informative tour as we expected. When he did talk he was very quiet and it was difficult to hear him in the back of the vehicle Our driver was OK about finishing the tour an hour earlier and picking us up, as we all felt tired.

This excursion was great. Our tour guide Claudio was exceptional. He was on time and got us back to the ship timely. He made sure to take us to key places that were MUST SEE and we even had ample time to explore Florence on our own but always staying in communication with us. Definitely recommend this tour!
