Il monastero di Hosios Loukas significa che "Esteemed Saint Luke" non fu costruito in onore di Luca Evangelista, ma fu fondato dal monaco greco Loukas. Fu sepolto nella cripta del monastero quando morì nel 953 d.C. Uno degli aspetti più sorprendenti del monastero si trova all'ingresso. Se alzi lo sguardo, vedrai uno spettacolare mosaico d'oro del santo. Attaccata all'abbazia è una grande chiesa, Katholikon, che a sua volta è collegata a un tempio più piccolo, o Theotokos, eretta tra il 997 e il 1011 per onorare la Vergine Maria. I templi sono splendidamente decorati con numerosi affreschi e mosaici, tutti perfettamente conservati. Sotto il Katholikon si trova la cripta dove giacciono i resti del santo. Sebbene Hosios Loukas sia più piccolo, l'edificio potrebbe ricordare la Basilica di Santa Sofia a Istanbul o la Basilica di San Marco a Venezia.
A Delfi visiteremo la primavera di Castalia, l'antico Santuario di Apollo, il Tesoro degli Ateniesi, l'antico Stadio, l'antico Teatro, l'eccezionale auriga di bronzo e il Museo. Delfi è sia un sito archeologico che una città moderna sul versante sud-occidentale del Monte Parnaso nella valle di Focide. Nella mitologia greca, era l'ombelico della terra, il sito dell'Oracolo di Delfi e un sito importante per l'adorazione di Dio Apollo dopo aver ucciso il Pitone, un drago che proteggeva l'ombelico della terra. Apollo parlò attraverso il suo oracolo. La sacerdotessa dell'oracolo conosciuta come la Pizia doveva essere una donna anziana e sedeva su un treppiede sopra un'apertura nella terra. Apollo possedeva Pythia e profetizzava. La gente ha consultato l'Oracolo di Delfi su tutto, dalle questioni importanti di ordine pubblico agli affari personali. L'Oracolo esercitò una notevole influenza in tutto il mondo greco e si consultò prima di tutti i principali eventi. L'antico stadio ospitava i giochi Python, che erano uno dei quattro giochi panellenici che si tengono ogni quattro anni. Il Museo Archeologico di Delfi, uno dei più importanti in Grecia, espone la storia del santuario di Delfi, sede del più famoso oracolo greco antico. Le sue ricche collezioni sono costituite principalmente da sculture architettoniche, statue e oggetti minori donati al santuario. Questi riflettono le sue attività religiose, politiche e artistiche dai suoi primi anni dell'ottavo secolo a.C. al suo declino nella tarda antichità. Il museo è ospitato in un edificio a due piani con una superficie totale di 2270 metri quadrati, con quattordici sale espositive, 558 metri quadrati di magazzini e laboratori di conservazione per ceramiche, oggetti metallici e mosaici.
La tradizionale città di Arachova si trova a soli 10 km da Delfi. Una visita ad Arachova rivela l'incantevole combinazione del vecchio con il nuovo, presso i terreni sacri della montagna di Apollo. Arachova è senza dubbio la regina di Parnassos. È costruito in modo anfiteatro e si diffonde magnificamente sulle colline meridionali di Parnassus, a 960 metri di altezza, finendo su una scogliera dove scorre il fiume Pleisto. HP Tours is an excellent provider to book any tours, transfers, and transportation in/around Athens. HP came very well recommended to us by a friend, and didn't disappoint. We had such an amazing time, Jimmy was our driver after we had him last summer to go to Epidaurus, Myceneae, and Corinth, as well as a half day going to the Temple of Poseidon at Suenion. Yesterday he took us to Elefsina and Wine Tasting, and then today was to Delphi, Chaironeia, and the monastery church of saint loucas. Jimmy is always the most lovely person, we were so happy to have him again. I would absolutely recommend using this service as we always have the best time!!

Jimmy, the driver, was amazing. His knowledge of the areas, the convenience of the drop offs and his attention to detail was fantastic. We hit all of the spots of interest and Jimmy pick a really amazing place for lunch with the most picturesque views.

Our 5th time with Frank and Panos and coming back for more! This is our 5th time working with Frank and his team at Hellenic Private Tours. From picking up our large group of 10 up at the airport to showing us amazing sites all over Greece in Delphi, Peloponnese and Athens this time they make it so easy to relax on vacation and spend family time together while they take care of everything. The modern sprinter van has WiFi so my kids were amused. They have a sound system and had short movies to explain the sites we were about to visit. They have access to private guides and drivers who know the history and culture of Greece. They know some fantastic local restaurants with too notch food and service and all the little spots that make the experience a memory forever, even for my teenagers. Thank you so much.
