Went on the boat cruise this week with my family as a very pleasant was to kill some time. Had to queue for a while to get on in the blistering sun as no real shade available but the process of getting on was very smooth. We sat indoors due to the heat, had a few drinks from the bar (my husband said the fruit cider was very nice!) and enjoyed the pleasant views. Being honest, you don’t see much in terms of sights but it’s beautiful riverside scenery, especially on such a sunny day. We couldn’t hear all the commentary but I’m not complaining- they stated clearly at the beginning that you could request if you wanted the volume up. We were happy with the wee snippets we heard and just enjoying the views as a family. Maybe a wee shade pricey for the duration but overall very enjoyable way to spend a sunny hour in York!
The cruise was ok but basically up and down the River. The annoying bit was the commentary in a very annoying voice.
A nice relaxing way to start our day. Not a great deal of sights to see along the route though the commentator did his best to make it interesting
Andy was our skipper and he was welcoming, engaging, and knowledgeable about the surrounding area of York. He was very funny! The team was also kind, even providing water for the dogs traveling on the boat.
A pleasant cruise along the River House let down by the incessant chatter over a poor microphone by the tour guide. Please give your poor audience a break.
Sit on top deck, if weather permits, great views and commentary from the skipper on the day, refreshments available.
Things started well, boarding was smooth and the staff were very friendly. After that it went downhill. We went to collect our fish and chips which were basically in a box in a back. No idea how long they had been there for. The boxes were swimming in grease underneath. Part of our order was missing and the staff member said they would ring the chip shop to get the missing parts delivered before we set off. We went up to the top deck to eat. The fish wasn't white, more cream or pale brown, a sure sign it has been frozen at least once if not multiple times. The batter was soggy. There's no real provisions to eat upstairs and owing to the greasy box you daren't put it on your knee. The missing items arrived after those that could eat had finished their males and put the empty boxes in the bin. Quite what I was going to do with a carton of peas at that point is anybodys guess. The tour set off and the commentary was barely audible, got every other word and the odd sentence. Nobody could hear so people just talked amongst themselves which made the commentary even harder to hear. What we did catch was comical. The "captain" Josh did it almost in a style of a bingo caller. There's really not much to see on the tour, the highlight being told if you look to the right you can see the roof of the Railway Museum. Sure it was the best looking corrugated roof I saw all day but wasn't noteworthy. You'll get to see lots of bushes by the river bank. The patrons of the pubs on the riverside are actually more entertaining. So all in all a disappointment. A boring venture up and down a river with inaudible and at times farcical commentary coupled with the worst fish and chips I've ever had.
Thank you for your review. I am glad boarding was smooth and our staff were friendly, but I am genuinely sorry that the rest of your trip fell short of expectations. To address your points briefly: Food & Service: I apologise for the greasy boxes and the unacceptable delay with your missing items; we are raising this immediately with our partner chip shop. Regarding the fish, the cream colour is not due to freezing—we serve Pollock! It is a delicious, flaky, and sustainable alternative to cod or haddock that helps protect overfished stocks. Commentary: We sincerely apologise for the issues you experienced with the commentary, and please be assured that we are actively working on fleet-wide audio improvements to ensure a consistently clear experience for all our guests. We would appreciate the opportunity to discuss your experience in more detail and investigate these issues properly. Please could you email our team directly at infoyork@citycruises.com with your booking reference? We look forward to hearing from you.
Well organised, on time, informative commentary, drinks available if required. Noticed there was good disabled access.
So bad it’s laughable. There isn’t really anything to see, and it’s not particularly pretty! It’s just a load of weeds and shrubbery and some semi detached houses. At one point the commentary said “if you look to the right between the trees you can see the roof of the national railway museum” !! The only upside is it really is so bad it’s funny!
Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry the cruise wasn't what you expected. Our route focuses on the natural course of the river outside the city centre, offering a quieter, greener journey rather than a traditional, monument-heavy sightseeing tour. While many enjoy this relaxing perspective, I completely understand why it may not have been to your taste. Well what can I say I booked the tour through Into the Blue the price was £15 but I had £10 off for joining so paid £10 for 2 tickets another bargain. The cruise started at 4pm and the cruise went on time, the cruise lasted for 45 minutes and the captain also talked about what he saw on the river he was excellent and spoke very well.Would have to say the cruise was spoilt by a group of 10 people who do not know the British culture if they fancy a chat for 45 minutes do not do it on a river cruise and have more respect for your fellow human being.
Thank you for leaving such a wonderful review of our captain! We are delighted to hear you grabbed a great bargain and enjoyed his excellent commentary during your 45-minute cruise. However, I am genuinely sorry that a noisy group of passengers disrupted your experience. It is always frustrating when others talk over the tour, and we completely understand your disappointment regarding their lack of consideration.
