An excellent museum with terrific personnel and an exceptional experience!!! I would highly recommend this tour for anyone over the age of 5!! While they don't seem to have an age restriction, it probably wouldn't hurt if they made the mine tour age 5+/
"Beyond amazing. Better value for money than we expected. How is this such a hidden gem we've missed for so many years?"Passed by many years ago and finally went. So glad I did
All in all, the whole experience was very interesting. The tour guide Mike was excellent in his presentation. The only drawback that bothered me was all the stairs to get to the start of tour. As a senior, I found it a bit difficult to conquer the climb. Other than that, I would recommend the experience for those that are interested in the history of our province.
Excellent museum, unfortunately I arrived too late to do the underground part of the tour, however the boom show and the displays were great. The presentation in the boom show was first rate, informative and amusing. The guide was also very good and well informed. Even without the underground part of the tour it was great
This was such a great day! Our tour guide, Josh, was incredible. We learned so much about mining processes, improvements, impacts, and history. Boom! was super fun and going underground was a cool experience for all of us. Gold panning and exploring the grounds is worth your time too! Thanks for a fun day and cool memories!
Finally visited this and it’s a well maintained museum with some good sights and some activities for all ages. Definitely do the mine tour and the Boom show, which are the highlight of the area. Not much else to do in the area as the village next door is just a couple of restaurants and shops so was waiting a while for the Squamish Connector to take me back home. But overall, a good experience.
This was a unique experience that our whole family enjoyed, including our two teens (ages 14 and 15). We purchased the full package, which included the mine tour and the BOOM presentation, and I highly recommend it. We arrived about 45 minutes before our tour, which gave us plenty of time to explore some of the exhibits and enjoy a picnic lunch. There is lots of seating available throughout the museum, both indoors and outdoors. Our tour guide, Ava, was wonderful—knowledgeable, engaging, and friendly. The tour begins with a train ride into the mountain, and even the walk to the train offers stunning ocean views. Inside, you walk through a couple of tunnels where old mining drills and tools are demonstrated, giving you a fascinating look at how mining was done in the past. The experience is interactive and made learning about the mine's history both fun and memorable. At the end of the tour, you get to explore the old Mill #3, which is absolutely spectacular. Seeing the scale of the building from the inside is truly impressive. There's also another interactive presentation where you sit and watch a show explaining exactly how the mine operated. It was incredibly well done and one of the highlights of our visit. After the tour, we had more time to explore the remaining exhibits. Our entire family thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and it was one of the highlights of our trip. We would definitely recommend the full package to anyone visiting!
Spencer was our energetic and informative tour guide and kept the group engaged. The group was all the way from families to seniors. The negative environmental impacts of mining were also discussed, which is appropriate. The closing part of the tour in original Mill #3 concentrator is multi-sensory and really takes the experience over the top. Terrific job, Spencer!
Wow, what a great tour. Totally worth it. You start by going through a traditional museum with exhibits and such, but then take a train into the mountain and see not just artifacts, but demonstrations of the machinery, sounds, and lights from the mining days. It ends with a great immersive video experience that you watch inside the mill, again with the sights and sounds of the mill recreated. Also, our guide was great. I forget her name now, it was something like Kaitlin, a small Asian woman with long hair. She was just wonderful.
This was an excellent excursion as i really enjoyed the BC Heritage of the mine and the people who lived and worked there.
