La Cisterna Basilica fu progettata per servire il Grande Palazzo Bizantino e gli edifici circostanti. Era in grado di immagazzinare fino a 100.000 tonnellate di acqua erogata tramite 20 km di acquedotti da un bacino idrico attorno alla Foresta di Belgrado. La Cisterna Basilica (Cisterna Sotterranea, Yerebatan) è una delle cisterne più famose di Istanbul. Fu costruita durante l'Impero Bizantino e in seguito non utilizzata dall'Impero Ottomano e dimenticata per molto tempo. Da quando è stata scoperta e restaurata, è stata utilizzata come museo dal 1988.

The tour guide was very helpful. My friend missed the tram, and the guide went with him on the tram.
The guide was very kind and offered us to visit the racetrack as well, it is a place with a lot of history and a wonderful architecture and ambiance. I felt like I was in the 007 movie walking along those walkways. I would have liked the tour to be available in Spanish.
