È un tour impegnativo quindi "Hang Tough". E facciamo una pausa pranzo in un interessante museo. La durata del tour di 10-11 ore è inclusa. Itinerario
Dopo un'ora e mezza di macchina da Amsterdam arriviamo a Dropzone C. Questa era l'area di atterraggio di Easy Company. A loro piaceva l'atterraggio morbido nei campi e possiamo capire perché. La fattoria Paulushoef era utilizzata come punto di raccolta e la popolazione locale era impegnata ad aiutare i feriti e gli assetati aviotrasportati. La fattoria non è visitabile.
Dalla zona di lancio seguiamo l'avanzata della compagnia Easy fino al ponte di Son. Fu fatto saltare in aria dai tedeschi. Fu improvvisato un ponte pedonale e l'avanzata verso Eindhoven continuò. Successivamente i tedeschi tentarono di riconquistare il ponte con un attacco di Panzer che fu sconfitto dopo un duro combattimento.
A Eindhoven vediamo la strada in cui la gente festeggiava mentre la compagnia Easy avanzava per catturare il ponte Dommel e aspettava i carri armati della divisione corazzata delle guardie. Successivamente la città fu bombardata dai tedeschi.
Andiamo a Nuenen. Qui Easy Company ha combattuto duramente con la 107 Brigata Panzer che attaccava da est. Nuenen è anche famoso come Vincent Van Gogh Village.
Ci fermiamo per il pranzo e per la visita al museo Wings of Liberation. Il museo è dedicato all'operazione Mercato-Giardino. Puoi vedere mappe esplicative e uniformi, attrezzature e veicoli utilizzati in display atmosferici. Si trova in un'area boschiva in un sito di stoccaggio della Guerra Fredda. Il museo è chiuso il lunedì.
I tedeschi fecero disperati tentativi di tagliare "Hells Highway" la rotta di avanzamento e rifornimento del XXX Corpo. Il mulino di Eerde e la strada di Koevering erano luoghi molto contesi.
In questa fattoria sull'isola è stata scattata la famosa foto di Dick Winters davanti al cancello. Facciamo una sosta qui in modo che tu possa fare lo stesso. Sulla strada c'è un monumento per Easy Company che copre lo schieramento dell'isola. La fattoria non è visitabile.
La nostra ultima fermata è all'incrocio dove un distaccamento della Easy Company si è imbattuto in 2 compagnie SS tedesche e le ha messe in rotta. Vedrai quanto è aperto il terreno con l'unica copertura proveniente da dighe e canali di scolo. Un piccolo monumento commemora l'azione. Da qui è di circa 1,5 ore di ritorno ad Amsterdam.

This experience meant far more to us than we expected. Standing in the very places where the soldiers of Operation Market Garden fought and fell gave us a sense of connection that was deeply personal for my family of 4. This experience wasn’t just about learning history—it was experiencing the places of history that books and movies cannot express. Hearing the stories while walking the same ground made the war feel closer, more human, and profoundly real. We found ourselves imagining their decisions, their sacrifices, and the impossible moments they faced. It gave us a new level of respect for the men who fought though out the Netherlands and left a lasting impression that we will take with us for the rest of our lives. Jip did an outstanding job of bringing all of these stories to life. He presented pictures, accounts, and his own unique blend of experience that accentuated this trip. This is by far one of the best experiences myself and my family have had in our travels, and we are greatly appreciative of Jip for helping us create family memories that will last a lifetime. We all 50, 40ish, 20 and 12 year olds, recommend this adventure. (5 stars is not enough)

Jip was outstanding in his knowledge of Easy Co 506th, Band of Brothers and Operation Market Garden. He took us to all the key sites, from the Easy Co. drop zone through The Crossroads, which included a visit to a very cool museum. Was a bucket list tour for me and it exceeded my expectations! Had a running conversation with Jip all day about Easy Co and Operation Market Garden, regarding tactics, personnel, and US Army/British Senior Leaders. Jip took us on an incredible day trip from Amsterdam to Bastogne and Foy! My husband is a passionate about World War II, particularly the journey Easy Company had through Europe. When he saw that we could do this tour, it was a must! Jip was incredibly knowledgeable, helping me learn along the way as I’m not as well-versed in WWII tanks and weapons as my husband. 😉 We both appreciated the depth of Jip’s knowledge, his thoroughly planned itinerary, and his generosity with his time. We were able to visit the Bastogne War Museum, several monuments around Bastogne, the Bois Jacques to see the foxholes and memorial, Foy, and more! It was so powerful to visit these places knowing (and learning more!) about what Easy Company faced right there.
