La Basilica di Santa Chiara è la chiesa che custodisce le spoglie di Santa Chiara d'Assisi, seguace di San Francesco d'Assisi e fondatrice dell'Ordine delle Povere Dame, oggi noto come Ordine di Santa Chiara.
Eretta nel 1615 sui resti di un edificio ritenuto dimora di San Francesco. L'architettura dell'edificio è di epoca rinascimentale. La facciata, realizzata in laterizio, è divisa da quattro pilastri che sorreggono una trabeazione dorica, con timpano attico, sopra la quale si eleva una cupola emisferica.
Situata nel luogo dove sorgeva l'antico Foro Romano, dominata dall'imponente Rocca Maggiore, la piazza rettangolare inizia alla fine di Corso Mazzini che la collega alla Basilica di Santa Chiara. Subito sulla destra si può ammirare la cinquecentesca "fontana dei tre leoni", rivisitata nel 1762 da Giovanni Martinucci.
Il Tempio di Minerva è un antico edificio romano. Attualmente ospita una chiesa, Santa Maria sopra Minerva, costruita nel 1539 e ristrutturata in stile barocco nel XVII secolo. Il tempio fu costruito nel I secolo per volere di Gneo Caesius e Titus Caesius Priscus, che furono due dei quattuorviri della città e ne finanziarono anche la costruzione.
La Basilica di San Francesco d'Assisi è la chiesa madre dell'Ordine Cattolico Romano dei Frati Minori Conventuali ad Assisi, città dell'Umbria nell'Italia centrale, dove nacque e morì San Francesco. Un opera assolutamente da non perdere.
Questa basilica luminosa e spaziosa è costituita da un'unica navata a quattro campate con volta a crociera bordata da motivi di croci e foglie, transetto e abside poligonale. Le quattro volte a vela sono decorate alternativamente con stelle dorate su fondo azzurro e pitture.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed spending the time with her. It was, as advertised, a small group - just our family - which allowed for a lot of interaction. Lots of people, especially at the basilica, but an enjoyable experience.
