Costruito per sostituire un altro mercato, demolito nel 1876, fu inaugurato nel 1930. L'interno è stato completamente ristrutturato in seguito ai lavori di ristrutturazione degli impianti eseguiti tra il 2010 e il 2011.
Il progetto di una moderna fortificazione a difesa di questo tratto di costa portoghese risale al XIV secolo, con la costruzione del Forte di Santiago do Outão, destinato a controllare l'ingresso del fiume.
Il Parco Naturale di Arrábida è una riserva biogenetica situata nella penisola di Setúbal, che copre i comuni di Palmela, Setúbal e Sesimbra, con la massima altitudine a Pico do Formosinho (501 m di altitudine), nel distretto di Setúbal, in Portogallo. Si estende per 35 chilometri.
Azeitão è formato dalle antiche parrocchie di Azeitão (São Lourenço e São Simão), che condividono il nome "de Azeitão", grazie agli estesi uliveti che, in epoca araba, dominavano quelle parti.
Il castello di Palmela si trova nell'omonimo villaggio, parrocchia e comune, distretto di Setúbal, in Portogallo. Dall'alto del suo mastio, nelle giornate limpide la vista si apre su Lisbona.

After several days of exploring on our own, this was a perfect way to see some new areas while giving our legs a rest. Our guide, Diogo, truly went above and beyond to make this a memorable day for us (including a wine/art tour and finding a handmade tile shop on our way!). He was a wealth of knowledge about the history of the area, and even tied in the history of the places we visited on the tour with the places we’d already seen to really understand how it all connected! Truly a wonderful day - our only regret was that we booked this near the end of our vacation and couldn’t have him take us on another excursion.

Had a fantastic time on this tour, my parents were super impressed with how knowledgeable our guide was with the area and all the sites were incredible. Would definitely recommend if you have limited time in Setubal to hit the main spots!

This is my second time booking the Arrábida: Setúbal tour with Outing Portugal. This was my cousin's first trip to Portugal, and Diogo planned a wonderful tour of Setúbal for us. Diogo Sampaio gave us the best tour of Setubal 10/10 would recommend to anyone who loves to learn the history of on area or have convenient door to door tours of an unfamiliar area. We will be back for another tour very soon!
