Fantastic Soba Making Experience

We were looking for a gluten friendly cooking class option for a non-celiac member of our party and decided on soba. Soba is not always gluten free but the instructors were more than willing to make a 100% buckwheat soba noodle for our gluten sensitive friend! We had an amazing time and both Taku and Mai did a great job instructing and answering our questions. The shabu shabu was a great end to the experience as well! Would highly recommend for anyone interested in a soba making experience!

Great intimate setting....

Great intimate setting. We learned a lot! While we were doing the workshop, we also learned about regional noodle culture. The meal we ate afterwards was also excellently prepared. Thank you for being so amazing!

Fulfilling Soba Experience

It's a very homey hands-on experience! Basically one-on-one which is the best. Taku-san was very knowledgeable about soba and it was fun to hear about soba culture vs udon culture. He's patient and encouraging in his guidance so it's easy to feel at ease under his tutelage! The soba itself was delicious (even more so since we made it ourselves) and a completely different experience compared to non-fresh soba noodles. You get to enjoy both cold soba and hot soba then you end off with Sobayu (the water in which soba was boiled in). We enjoyed the Ezo deer shabu shabu and the soba a lot, and would absolutely recommend this experience with Taku-san! :)

Soba professionals!

We had the best soba experience with Taku and his partner. He found us at the nearby subway stop and walked us to the shop. We were a few minutes late but he was very accommodating. When we got to his shop he told us all about soba and got us straight to work making the dough. He showed us but mostly had us do it which was great because that’s the best way to learn. After we made the dough, rolled the dough, and chopped it into noodles we sat down and ate some deer meat shabu shabu with amazing wasabi pickles and 2 dipping sauces. They also showed us a traditional soba broth that gets sipped after your meal. Oishikattadesu! We had so much fun and we learned a lot. Very excited to try to make soba at home now!

Stay away!

The booking was for an English speaking guide. First the location to meet was in a snow covered park..no one was there and it was @-5c. We tried to call the host/guide from the number provided but they did not speak English and hung up on us twice. We then called Viator and the customer service person also could not communicate with the host/guide even though the Viator rep confirmed it was an English speaking tour. We travelled an hour by bus and train for nothing. Hopefully we’ll at least get a refund. Seemed like a scam.

Risposta dell'operatore

Our fact checking and response A reservation was made for a 4:30 p.m. start time. The first call came in around 4:35 p.m. on the day of the reservation, but the caller's signal was bad and the caller hung up. The second time, the person who made the reservation said, “Please send me an e-mail through VIRTOR,” and the person who made the reservation said, “Okay,” and hung up. The name of the restaurant is [Teuchi-Soba Mondo]. After the noon business hours of the handmade soba restaurant, we have been telling the charm of real soba, tradition, charm of Sapporo and Hokkaido to non-Japanese people since around 2019 while studying English, which is not our strong point. There are only two start times, 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. start times! Indeed, English is not my strong point. However, I am proud to say that the customers who have experienced our service have been extremely satisfied. Since they have felt the true Soba, it has led to repeat customers. If they don't understand something, they get an e-mail via VIRTOR, so this has never happened to us before. At 4:56 p.m., I received a full refund cancellation notice. The reason was that they had waited for an hour and no one had come to pick me up. At this point, our product clearly states the location of the event. There is no park near our restaurant! Location→9-17-28 Hassamu 6-jo 9-chome, Nishi-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido The location can be reached in about 5 minutes on foot from Miyanosawa Station on the Sapporo Subway Tozai Line. It can be reached by subway from Sapporo Station, locally accessible. It is listed as 1 hour by bus and train, but we do not know what route you took. The refund policy is in line with VIATOR's cancellation policy. The restaurant is a private lesson and everything was prepared only for the group of people who made the reservation. We are very saddened by this because we are in this business and as you can see from the other reviews of our experience, this has never happened to us before!
