Benvenuto a Phnom Penh! La capitale della Cambogia si trova alla confluenza dei fiumi Mekong, Tonle Sap e Bassac. Phnom Penh era considerata da molti come la più bella di tutte le città costruite in Francia in Indocina e così fu chiamata la perla dell'Indocina. Fu un vivace centro commerciale durante l'occupazione francese, ma gli anni della guerra lo distrussero in un campo di rovine prima di diventare una città fantasma durante il periodo dei Khmer rossi. È solo dagli anni '90 che la città ha iniziato a riprendersi e oggi si è ristabilita come centro politico e finanziario del paese. Il suo ricco passato storico può essere rintracciato in alcune influenze di influenza khmer e francese, come molti templi decorati in stile Khmer e alcuni grandi edifici coloniali.

Il Palazzo Reale e la Pagoda d'Argento sono due degli edifici più suggestivi della capitale e considerati alcuni dei migliori esempi di architettura Khmer. Furono inizialmente costruiti nel 1866 dai francesi. Il Palazzo Reale ospita l'attuale re Sihamoni. La vicina Pagoda d'Argento si distingue nel suo modo distintivo. Il pavimento è costituito da 5.329 piastrelle d'argento massiccio a cui l'edificio deve il suo nome. L'edificio ospita molte statue di Buddha d'oro e ingioiellate, compreso il pregiato Buddha di cristallo baccarat del XVII secolo. Altri edifici importanti che possono essere trovati all'interno del complesso includono Wat Preah Keo Morokat, dove vengono eseguite le cerimonie reali, e stupa come King Ang Doung Stupa, il luogo di sepoltura dell'ex re Norodom. Il museo ospita una delle più grandi collezioni al mondo di arte Khmer, tra cui sculture, ceramiche Khmer, bronzi e oggetti etnografici. La sua collezione comprende oltre 14.000 oggetti, dalla preistoria ai periodi prima, durante e dopo l'Impero Khmer, che al suo apice si estendeva dalla Thailandia, attraverso l'attuale Cambogia, al Vietnam meridionale. Il Museo Nazionale della Cambogia si trova accanto alla Royal University of Fine Arts si trova sul lato ovest del museo. Gli edifici del museo, ispirati all'architettura del tempio Khmer, furono costruiti tra il 1917 e il 1924, il museo fu ufficialmente inaugurato nel 1920 e fu rinnovato nel 1968.

Wonderful tour. I went to the royal palace and National museum The guide and driver were early for pick up but that was fine as I was ready. The guide certainly knew Cambodias history which was great
Siphat was an awesome tour guide, taking me on a historical journey through the Royal Palace grounds and National Museum. His detailed historical and cultural knowledge helped me to make many connections and insights along the way. Highly recommend this tour!
The Royal Palace obviously does not enter the part of the palace where the current king resides. In addition, the Silver Pagoda is always open to visitors. The present palace dates from the 20th century. Several places to visit , such as the Throne Hall, the Kemarin Palace , the Hor Samritvimean Pavilion , the Napoleon III Pavilion, the Chan Chaya Pavilion , in the center of the courtyard , the famous silver pagoda paved with 5329 silver tiles of 1.125 , then the famous Emerald Buddha which is in jade , then a life-sized gold Buddha weighing 90 kg, it is inlaid with 2086 diamonds, the largest in the center of the tiara represents 25 carats. For the National Museum, huge red building, built by the French in the 1920s , a winged Garuda of 2 meters in stone, many stelae engraved in Sanskrit and ancient Khmer , many Buddhas lying, standing, sitting. Many jewels, many reliefs and lintels. Very nice visit.

Wonderful morning tour. My guide, Syphat was very nice and considerate with my needs. As the Palace is still closed, Genocide museum was the initial alternative...which I was reluctant to go. I told that Syphat and he immediately came up another plan, which worked out perfect for me. He was punctual every step of the way. He even went extra effort to help me get SIM card in the middle of tour...and still managed to drop me off at the hotel on the dot at the end of the tour!
