Le 6 juin 1944, cette partie emblématique du littoral est devenue le champ de bataille de l’une des opérations militaires les plus importantes de l’histoire : l’invasion du jour J. Dans le cadre de l'opération Overlord, les troupes américaines ont débarqué sous une pluie de tirs ennemis, faisant face à des obstacles redoutables et à de lourdes pertes. Pourtant, leur détermination inébranlable et leur courage extraordinaire ont ouvert la voie à la libération de l’Europe. Aujourd'hui, Omaha Beach constitue un lieu sacré, un rappel poignant des sacrifices consentis par des milliers de soldats alliés qui ont combattu et sont morts ici. Avec son sable immaculé et ses eaux sereines juxtaposées aux vestiges obsédants de la guerre, Omaha Beach offre aux visiteurs une occasion solennelle de réfléchir au prix de la liberté et à l'héritage durable de ceux qui ont tout donné pour elle.
Perché au sommet des falaises de Colleville-sur-Mer surplombant Omaha Beach, le cimetière américain est un hommage solennel au courage et au sacrifice de plus de 9 000 soldats alliés qui ont donné leur vie pendant la campagne de Normandie de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Créé en 1944, ce cimetière méticuleusement entretenu constitue un rappel poignant du prix de la liberté. Ses rangées de croix de marbre blanc et d'étoiles de David offrent un spectacle qui donne à réfléchir, tandis que le Mémorial, sur lequel sont inscrits les noms de plus de 1 500 soldats disparus, constitue un symbole intemporel d'honneur et de souvenir. Visiter ce lieu sacré n'est pas seulement l'occasion de rendre hommage aux morts, mais aussi de réfléchir à l'impact profond de leur courage et de leur engagement en faveur de la liberté.
La dégustation de cidre est facultative. Offrez-vous un voyage sensoriel à la Ferme de la Sapinière où vous attendent des siècles de tradition cidricole. Nichée au cœur de la Normandie, cette cidrerie historique propose bien plus que de délicieuses boissons ; c'est un portail vers le passé. Fondée au XVIe siècle, cette cidrerie a été témoin de la riche histoire de la région, notamment des récits du Château de la Percée, un château voisin qui accueillait autrefois des rassemblements nobles. Aujourd'hui, en dégustant leurs exquis cidres élaborés à partir de pommes cultivées localement, vous goûtez à l'essence du patrimoine normand. Savourez chaque gorgée dans le charme rustique de la cidrerie, où l'art de la fabrication du cidre s'est perfectionné au fil des générations. En passant par Bayeux lors de notre voyage de retour, vous aurez un aperçu de son charme médiéval, mis en valeur par l'impressionnante cathédrale de Bayeux. My family (my wife and daughter) and I took the half day tour in June of 2026. Manuel and Theiry met us at the Hotel de la Gare, which is right next to the Bayeux train station. They were, in fact, the only tour that would pick us up there. We were furnished with helmets and gloves, and both men went over safety information before we headed out. I am over six feet tall, so I had to ride in one of the side cars, which was surprisingly comfortable. Both of our guides were extremely knowledgeable about the D-Day landings. I am a history teacher, so I can tell you that they both know their material. They were eager to answer any and all questions we had, and we never felt as if we were being rushed. Both men have a deep respect for all who participated in the D-Day landings. They clearly want you to understand what happened. Both men also have a great sense of humor. We started at the British artificial harbor and memorial. Manuel was kind enough to share the process by which the British built an artificial harbor where the Allies landed their supplies. Traveling by motorcycle does has its advantages, as they can get closer to places than a bus. They took us a German mortar position which gave us an excellent view of Omaha Beach. No one was there due to its remote location. It gave us to a greater appreciation for the sacrifices that were made during D-Day. They took us down to Omaha Beach next, and they not only gave us the history and pointed out all of the German positions, but also gave us time to wonder the Beach. We did run into rain, and we were provided with storm gear. Both men asked us in advance if we had relatives that died during D-Day. If you do, they will alert the American Cemetery so that the Cemetery can prep the grave and escort you right to it. The Tour ended in Bayeux, which is worth checking out if you have the time.

Speed through Normandy experiencing the sights and smells of the rural north of France. Quaint churches, chateaus, bucolic farms, poppies, wheat and happy cows move by while Theirry drives you on his side car motor bike. He is delightful and knowledgeable and the stops at Omaha Beach and the US military cemetery are beautiful and moving. Highly recommend for anyone with an adventurous spirit.

The 2-hour private sidecar tour around the Normandy WWII sites from Bayeux was a real highlight of our trip. Manuel and Thierry were brilliant guides—friendly, funny, and passionate about the history of the area. Manuel was especially knowledgeable and shared fascinating insights about the events of D-Day and the Normandy campaign, bringing the history to life in a way that was both engaging and memorable. The sidecar itself was great fun and offered a unique way to explore the countryside and important historical locations. We learned a lot, laughed a lot, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The best time - was the highlight to end our trip. Made my 10yr olds dream come true of riding in a side car - they were able to accommodate an earlier time so we could make our trip back to the airport and even created stops we had not been to in our other tour. Highly recommend - the views, the guide, the joy of seeing Normandy in this way is a must.
