We were met by Mel at the MTR station and for the next 4 hours, we were treated not only to some of the best food we have experienced, but to some wonderful conversations. Mel was patient, very thoughtful, and he ensured that we were well in our comfort zones. He led us through the streets of Sham Shui Po and down obscure streets we would have never found otherwise.
Thanks so much for your review! We're so happy to hear that you enjoyed your time with Mel in Sham Shui Po. One of the best parts of the neighborhood is discovering those little side streets and local spots that most visitors would never find on their own. We'll make sure Mel sees your kind comments. Thanks again for joining us, and we hope to see you back in Hong Kong someday for more food adventures!
First off, we had a private tour for two people which made the experience amazing. Being two people the whole tour was geared for us: desires and tastes. Our tour guide Mel was wonderful. He was personable, knowledgeable, and focused on making sure our tastes and experiences were met. His personality is wonderful. He’s a very intelligent man. He explained in detail about all the sights, and foods we’re experiencing. He took through the food markets and supplied information on how food is produced, processed, and delivered to the community. When it was over he made sure we were safely back at our hotel accompanying us on the subway, even after we had told him that we were comfortable navigating the city (we’ve been here before). Finally Mel, sent us a detailed description and names of all the restaurants we had eaten at. One final note: as we were getting to know each other it came out that we were both orchid enthusiasts, so he made sure to take us to some beautiful and extensive orchid stores (funnily I remembered in clear detail one of the stores from our previous visit yeas ago). We could not asked for a better afternoon and Mel again made it amazing/special. On a final note all the food was delicious and of exceptional quality. Again ask for Mel, he’s the best
We can’t thank you enough for the kind words! It sounds like you and Mel had a fantastic time exploring the city together. We are so glad he could add that extra touch by visiting the orchid stores and ensuring you made it back to your hotel safely. Providing that detailed list of restaurants is just one way we like to make sure the memories (and the flavors!) last long after the tour ends. We’ll let Mel know he’s "the best"—he will be so happy to hear it!
Great tourguide, not only did we get to taste lots of different food, but the guide told us many interesting facts about the history and culture of Hong Kong. Very enriching and I would do it again!
Hi Veronica, thank you so much for your kind words! We’re thrilled you enjoyed both the food and the stories about Hong Kong’s history and culture. We’d be delighted to have you join us again on another tour!
Sinclair our guide was very knowledgeable and communication was easy with him. He was very friendly and took great care of our group. We didn’t love all of the food offerings but we went to places local residents go to, which was great! it was an experience! We saw parts of Hong Kong, we would not have experienced without Sinclair.

Great way to enjoy traditional food and see the sights. Sinclair shared wonderful stories with us. He made the tour extremely enjoyable making more than just a food tour.

This was a really fun afternoon/early evening tour with GREAT food that i would never have tried on my own. Kiyo was a fantastic guide. We went all around different parts of Kowloon - lots of walking and we also used the MTR (subway). I loved learning about the local food culture and traditions as well, like about the old-style tea shops. There was a LOT of food, most of it local specialties, and all of it very good. Highlights for me were the snake soup, HK style french toast, wonton noodle soup, plum ice cream. We also visited several local street markets, the fruit market, a temple, and a small carnival in a shopping mall where i won a small prize. I highly recommend this tour and Kiyo as a guide if you’re interested in/willing to pay for a private tour
Thank you so much for your kind review! We’re thrilled you enjoyed the food tour and exploring Kowloon with Kiyo, and loved learning about the local food culture. We really appreciate your recommendation and hope to see you again soon! 😊
Mel was an excellent, informative guide. His English is perfect. The tour itself was well structured, and took us to areas that we would have been unlikely to find on our own. The food offerings were more than we anticipated - most participants were too full to eat everything offered! The tour exceeded our expectations, and we considered it excellent value for money.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed your tour with Mel. He will be very happy to know his knowledge, English, and guidance made your experience memorable. We’re glad the structure of the tour helped you explore places you might not have found on your own, and that the food offerings exceeded your expectations. Until next time!
Mel was a fun and engaging tour guide who wanted to share his city with us. He made us taste a variety of local yummy fruits and street foods. I wish we had done more of the Michelin places and earlier in the tour. But other the that, I would recommend Mel's tour to anyone.
Hi Natalie, thank you so much for your kind words and for recommending Mel’s tour! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed exploring Hong Kong’s local fruits and street foods with him. We truly appreciate your feedback about the Michelin-rated stops. After reviewing your tour details, we saw that you visited six food stops, including a number of well-loved local favorites along Temple Street and around Nathan Road such as Mammy Pancake (Michelin-rated). Mel had also introduced several other Michelin-listed options during the tour, but we understand that your group chose to enjoy the roasted goose and were quite full afterward — which is completely understandable! Our tours are 100% flexible, and our guides always tailor the experience to each group’s pace and preferences. We’re happy to know you had a great time overall and hope to welcome you again on your next visit!
We went to special places to eat that never by ourselves will ever go. Experience local cousine with Sinclair . Excellent!!!
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're so happy to hear you enjoyed exploring Hong Kong’s local cuisine with Sinclair. It’s great that you got to try some hidden gems that most visitors would miss!
The directions provided for the meeting location and instructions on how to contact our guide were both clear and concise, making it easy to find the starting point and connect with our guide. Our guide, Mel, was fantastic and exceptionally engaging throughout the entire experience. Over the course of our four hours together, Mel consistently answered all our questions and offered deep insights into the Sham Shui Po area. Because our group was small, we had the flexibility to choose from a variety of different foods to sample. There was certainly more than enough food provided for everyone. While I won't spoil the surprises by listing every dish, I would like to highlight the meat and egg sandwich, which was delicious on its own but elevated to another level when paired with the inhouse-made chili sauce. All the venues we visited maintained high standards of hygiene, and I felt completely confident in the quality of the food we enjoyed. Thank you to Hello Hong Kong and, most importantly, to Mel for providing such a wonderful evening. I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in exploring the culinary delights of Sham Shui Po.
Thank you for your fantastic review! We’re so glad you had a wonderful evening exploring Sham Shui Po with Mel. It’s great to hear you enjoyed the food, stories, and smooth experience from start to finish. We truly appreciate your recommendation!
