Run! DON’T BOOK! There is a reason he has NO REVIEWS in 2025! He fishes for clients from TA/Viator to book separately!

I do NOT recommend this tour. The itinerary sounded great, especially since it was the only one I found that included the Elmina Lagoon, BUT the experience with the operator was extremely disappointing. As soon as he realized only 2 people were booked, he tried to cancel the tour. He attempted to frame it as “helping us” by offering to find a driver who could act as tour guide for the day, but repeatedly mentioned how much money he “loses” (around 30%) when bookings come through TripAdvisor/Viator. He even sent screenshots about this information. He actually advised cancellation the same day we booked, but I did not see his WhatsApp message until a few days later. It became clear he only wants groups of 5 to 6+ people. If that’s the case, he should clearly state a minimum participant requirement. Instead, he kept insisting it would be cheaper for us to handle the trip ourselves and that he could arrange a different “private guide,” but it was obvious he simply didn’t want to run the tour himself. Normally his option might have been cheaper, BUT in this case his suggested private tour rate was similar to Viator’s discounted rate. Viator’s special rate was $174.50 USD per person, and his suggested rate was approximately $170–$175 USD per person. I considered booking privately, BUT there was NO real guarantee of pickup. The total tour rates he quoted included the rental car, driver fee, fuel, & museum fees (approximately $170–$175 USD per person or 3,740 to 3,840 GHS). The driver also required a 50% upfront payment (around 750 GHS) via mobile transfer because of the upcoming holiday on 5 Dec 2025, which was causing high demand for rental cars. One of the cars they initially showed us suddenly became unavailable. The tour operator continued messaging us trying to secure a replacement vehicle, BUT again there were 0 protections in case the he outsourced driver never showed. He said I could leave a bad review if the tour guide he suggested didn’t show up, BUT there was no sense of security or assurance that the guide would actually follow through once a partial payment was received. What made this worse was his claim that he was “not making any money” from the trip and that he would rather receive a good review. He also said he was looking to raise his rates & was trying to stay competitive, but expressed frustration that other tour operators were undercutting him or something to that effect. However, as of 4 DEC 2025, his Viator rates are still $210 USD per person. That statement alone raised red flags. Eventually we canceled and rebooked with a different company. My biggest warning: He repeatedly emphasized how “honest” he is and how he was “trying to help us save money,” BUT when someone has to say that 20+ times in 1 conversation, it becomes the opposite of reassuring. It also explains why he has NO 2025 reviews. He is focused on school and appears to use Viator/TripAdvisor mainly to source customers and then redirect them to book privately to avoid paying platform fees. The “it’s cheaper” angle is just the hook. Glad we did not fall for it. Do NOT trust this operator.

I will try to send all our WhatsApp chats to the Viator. Was I not open with you that I cannot run this tour because I rent cars for the tour and they have increased prices? i told you personally to cancel the tour because i can not run it. You claimed i was stressing honesty. Yes i will stress it again i am honest. And in my entire life working with Viator, I have never convinced anyone to book directly with me. You are the first person to criticize my efforts, even though I wanted to help you secure a rental car and manage the tour on your own. You are such an ungrateful human. Why did you not write on here that you had little money on you and you wanted me to run the tour because you can only make card payments? I told them again and again that I cannot run this tour because I will lose due to current changes in rental fees.

Learned so much

I would definitely recommend this tour. You don’t want to miss the elimination lagoon. That was my favorite part. It’s a long drive from Accra but makes for a good whole day excursion. Our navigator, Frederick, was great

Cape Coast and Elmina from Accra

I did the Cape Coast and Elmina tour with my mom. We had a private and very long ride about 3-4hrs from Accra to Cape Coast. We got to ride through lots of towns and talk with Frederick who navigates like an expert. All the stops along the tour were interesting— Kakum, Elmina Castle, and the lagoon. You really don’t want to miss the lagoon. Take the long tour at Kakum if you aren’t afraid of heights (maybe even if you are). It rained during our Kakum stop but it made for a beautiful fog. Take a poncho. This tour is worth it and Afrocentric tours delivers on its promise. No regrets

Life changing experience!

Kwame (Bright) gave an excellent tour of Elmina Castle and a short walking tour of Elmina (specifically through the fish market). Kwame's historical knowledge of the Cape Coast area, the transatlantic trade, and the castle itself made for an intellectual feast. I really enjoyed his use of quotes from current and past thinkers, scholars, and writers. At Cape Coast Castle, I given a tour by a guide who was not Kwame, though Kwame walked along with this group and me. This guide was also excellent though clearly expecting a certain emotional response. Both castles and the national park visit were unforgettable experiences for me. As for Afro-Centric tours--5 stars! On time, polite, thoughtful, real gentlemen. Jeff was my driver and he was amazing.

Great experience and knowledgeable tour guide

We highly recommend Kwame and Eugene's private tour! They have studied tourism and truly love introducing tourists to Ghana. They are also very nice guys that we enjoyed getting to know! Kwame was kind enough to customize the tour toward the areas we were most interested. If you are interested in Elmina Castle and the history of the transatlantic slave trade, Kwame is your guy. He did an internship at Elmina and has continued volunteering there for several years, so he is extremely knowledgeable about the subject. Another highlight of the tour was a private boat trip through the fishing market of Elmina where we saw the daily routines of the fish market up close. The canopy walk at the national park was beautiful and not to be missed. Overall, we had a great day with Kwame and Eugene and would love to take more trips with them next time we visit Ghana!

Perfect match of history and contemporary life in Ghana

Afrocentric Tours is an excellent choice for private tour. It was easy to connect with tour's operator, Enoch Kwame Bright, via WhatsApp prior to the trip to discuss a few customized options for the day's itinerary. He arranged for a great driver, Eugene, who picked us up at our hotel in Accra in an air-conditioned sedan and took us on a narrated trip through the city as we drove out to pick up Kwame (who's based closer to the Cape Coast region). Kwame studied tourism and had a placement at Elmina Castle, so he has extensive knowledge of the transatlantic slave trade and the history of slavery in Africa. The tour complemented the gravity of the slave dungeons with experiences of life in Ghana -- a private boat trip and visit to the Elmina fishing market, as well as a stroll through Kakum National Park. Everything was well organized and Kwame handled all the logistics along the way (e.g. payment at the various sites). The guys are clearly good friends and it made for a very enjoyable day. They were happy to answer our many questions about history as well as everyday life in Ghana. We even had some fun with Eugene on the way back from Cape Coast hitting the police checkpoints that are always in place -- Eugene knew exactly how to handle the interactions so we were on our way quickly.

An experience not to be missed in Ghana

The trip was unforgettable for us - a once in a lifetime experience. We were picked up at our hotel by driver Eugene who was extremely friendly, considerate and knowledgeable. It was a long journey from Accra to Cape Coast, but the time passed quickly with interesting conversation and Eugene pointing out sights along the way. We picked up our guide Kwame in Elmina. He was super knowledgeable and explained both cultural and historical facts about the places we visited. In one day we did the canopy walk in Kakum National Park and visited both Elmina and Cape Coast castles. It would be nice to spend the night in Elmina to shorten the driving time, but if you don't have the time to do that and are in Accra, this trip is 100% worth it. Kwame made the places we saw come to life - it's a moving experience that is not to be missed.

Bittersweet History

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable during our tour of the Elmina Slave castle. The information was straight to the moment and captivating at the same time. I really appreciated the time spent at the castle. Highly recommend!!

Tour or Elmina and the fort

Enoch took me on a guided tour of Elmina and the fort last week. He is a great guide, he knows Elmina and its history inside out, and also a lot of people whom he greets on the way. He adjusted the tour to my needs and it was a great experience. Thank you!

Must have tour in Ghana

I cannot praise Afrocentric Travels and Tours more highly for an awesome custom tour to Assin Manso Slave River Site, Elmina Castle, and Cape Coast Castle. Enoch customized my private tour to my specifications and I was allowed as much time at each location as needed. Having so many emotions and feelings afterward, all I can say is studying history allows us to observe and understand how people and societies behaved in the past so we can never repeat it. Enoch is an excellent, knowledgeable, and informative guide. I located his tour via Instagram (enochampong6) about 4 weeks before my trip and we discussed what I wanted to experience and his recommendations. His prices included a driver with pick up and drop off from my Accra hotel. From the time I landed until the time I left, Enoch made me feel welcome in his country and truly created one of my most memorable trips.
