Lors de cette visite en petit groupe "Sur les traces de la WW2" nous plongeons dans l'histoire. C'est un excellent ajout aux visites sur l'histoire juive à Amsterdam et à la Maison Anne Frank. Nous visitons un ancien camp de concentration nazi, avec ses casernes, ses monuments commémoratifs et son crématorium. Corrie Ten Boom a été emprisonné ici pendant la guerre. De nombreux enfants juifs ont été envoyés en Pologne d'ici et des centaines de résistants ont été exécutés. Nous visiterons également les sites de l'opération Market Garden et de la bataille d'Arnhem : quel était le plan et comment a-t-il échoué ? Quelles ont été les implications pour le peuple Néerlandais et les forces alliées ? L'exposition au Musée aéroporté d'Arnhem, le cimetière de guerre et le pont John Frost sont des incontournables de cette visite. Si vous préférez visiter le cimetière de la guerre à Groesbeek, Overloon ou Magraten, ou l'ancien camp de concentration de Westerbork où Anne Frank et sa famille ont été emprisonnés, veuillez réserver notre visite privée de la Seconde Guerre mondiale!

Itinéraire
Nous visitons l'ancien camp de concentration nazi de Vught, dans le sud de la Hollande. Le camp a été utilisé pour la première fois en 1942 et abritait 31 000 prisonniers juifs et politiques. Nous visiterons les vestiges du camp de concentration avec ses tours de guet, ses casernes, son crématorium, son train d'origine et son mémorial pour les enfants. Nous visitons également le site d'exécution dans les bois où plus de 300 résistants ont été exécutés. Le camp dispose d'une librairie, d'une bonne visite audio et d'une petite cafétéria.
Le pont John Frost sur le Rhin à Arnhem fut le dernier pont à capturer lors de l'opération Market Garden. Si les Alliés parvenaient à s'emparer de ce pont, la route vers l'Allemagne serait ouverte. Le pont joue un rôle important dans le film A Bridge Too Far.
Nous visitons le musée Airborne à la Villa Hartenstein. Lors de la bataille d'Arnhem en septembre 1944, qui faisait partie de l'opération militaire Market Garden, Hartenstein devint le quartier général de la division aéroportée britannique lors de violents combats. La tentative audacieuse de percer les lignes allemandes et de capturer la région de la Ruhr pour mettre rapidement fin à la guerre a échoué. Le pont d'Arnhem s'est avéré être un pont trop loin. Aujourd'hui, Hartenstein abrite des histoires personnelles de soldats britanniques, polonais et allemands ainsi que de civils, racontées à travers les objets historiques uniques du musée.
Nous visiterons le cimetière militaire d'Arnhem Oosterbeek. Ici reposent la plupart des 1684 soldats tombés au combat lors du débarquement de septembre.

A must do. I cannot recommend this tour enough. This is a small, intimate tour with a very knowledgeable guide. The tour guide takes the time to share their own personal experiences, which adds another layer to the tour which is absolutely moving.

Trip was an excellent tour. Sarah provided an excellent narrative with some personal history and cultural info. She was a great driver and was very courteous to our group. We had people with dietary needs and she was able to find us a great restaurant. She knew her history at all the stops. We loved the Airbourne Museum and we'll never forget our trip to Kamp Vught. Eva provided so much background and personal experiences passed on from members in her family to help us understand the brevity of what happened, why and the inhumane treatment of the Jews and others who tried to protect them. Heartbreaking how all this unfolded. Additionally, Eva thoroughly described the Battle of Arnhem and how it came to be and why followed by a trip to the museum and Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery, where over 1700 Allied soldiers were buried. The entire experience of seeing the war site, museum and cemetary gave me a very good understanding what our allied troops were fighting against and why. This was an extremely educational day and I'm very happy I booked this tour. I needed to know. I highly recommend this tour to others who are unclear how well organized concentration and elimination camps were designed and orchestrated by the Nazis to reach their end goal in their reign of perceived superiority and how necessary it was for our Allied forces to fight them.

The Footsteps of WWII tour was a humbling experience. Our tour guide Eva was the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors. Eva shared the personal experiences of her father and grandparents throughout the day which helped immerse us in that time period and helped us process the sites from a different perspective. The Airborne Museum at Villa Hartenstein was very well done, we could have spent days there. The grounds and audio narrative of Camp Vught concentration camp were well done. Eva was very personable, accommodating and her English was excellent. Eva was a great story teller which helped us understand the oppression of the Jewish community in the Netherlands. This was a great tour with an amazing tour guide. We would highly recommend this tour.
