Our guide Selçuk gave a very interesting detail of the ancient city of Pergamon. We were not rushed on the sites so my wife and I were able to take good photos of the historical things. Plus, we were not obligated to stop by shopping areas and tourist traps thereby placing more time on the things that really mattered. The lunch at a local Pergamon restaurant (not the open buffet for the tourist) is the icing on the cake. Definitely recommend this tour. Just ask for Selçuk as the private guide
We had an amazing day at Pergamon with our guide, Selcuk! He was very good with history and gave us enough time taking pictures. Selcuk never rushed us nor obliged us to shop. We really just enjoyed the sites! We had a sumptous lunch at a local resto before heading back to Izmir.
I can’t say enough good things about this tour! From the moment our guide (Selçuk) and driver (Cemal) picked us up at our hotel, the fun began! Selçuk engaged us; attentively and thoroughly answered every question we posed; and added context and history to our tour! He’s very approachable and knowledgeable and I would easily choose him for any other tours we undertake our next trip! As for Pergamon itself, it’s amazing! I knew literally nothing about the site itself beforehand. But we spent considerable time looking at all of its characteristics and delving into details. I came away feeling much more aware of the site’s magnificence! I enthusiastically recommend this tour and these operators!
Even if you know NOTHING about Ionia, Hellenistic Anatolia or Roman life, come and see Pergamon. If you do, I don't have to sell it, and if you don't at least you'll enjoy the breeze in summer. The remains of the city at the top of the long, winding road up are awesome, and our guide Selcuk was equipped with facts and stories at every turn. After visiting the acropolis, we were taken down the slopes to the ruins of the Asclepion of Pergamon. I hadn't heard of this place before, if our guide hadn't brought us we would have missed it entirely. It's possible to see this and another nearby site within two days; the day prior we visited Ephesus. You may wish to consider visiting at the very beginning or end of tourist season, as even in April the the more religiously historical sites can be crowded with groups of older people/cruise ship parties. But Selcuk was able to keep us moving while informing us of the meanings and historical changes of the places we saw. Nowhere near as clogged with babushkas as Ephesus but some tour groups of ancient humans will need to wash their aching knees in the sacred waters of the Asclepion. Afterward, on the way back to Izmir, the four of us dropped into a local restaurant in Bergama for very refreshing local fare. Cemal, our driver, picked us up promptly from pur hotel in Izimir in the morning, ferried us to the sites and back to Izimir airport in good time to make our flight to Istanbul. If I were to return to Turkey for more tours, these would be the guys I'd want bringing me around.
Amazing! Selcuk was an excellent guide. Recommend!
I had a fantastic day tour of Pergamon Acropolis and Asclepion with guide Selcuk Cetin out of Izmir. I was met exactly on time and traveled in a comfortable van. Selcuk has deep knowledge of the history and conveys it in excellent English, in a very interesting way. The day flew by too fast. Just a great guide, and day. Good driver Jamal, too.
Had an amazing tour with Selçuk as my guide throughout Pergamon. He had extensive knowledge about all the history of the area and was super friendly and funny. The ride was quick and comfortable in a luxurious van driven by Cemal who was efficient and safe. The lunch stop was also very delicious. All together a great day trip to see a beautiful ancient city. I highly recommend this tour when in Izmir!
We had a great time visiting Pergamon Ancient City and The Asklepion. The tour indeed had exceeded our expectation! Our guide, Mehmet, was very knowledgable, enthusiastic, and well-versed in Greek and Roman history. The trip was well-organized, and the vehicle was very comfortable. I highly recommend this tour.
We did the tour in an extremely comfortable vehicle, with an excellent driver. But the highlight was the experience with guide Mehmet Kadir. The explanations and anecdotes about the Acropolis and the Asclepeion were great and helped us understand the importance and grandeur of this incredible city. Details about the construction or how the water supply was obtained in a city on top of a hill. Also interesting details about the philosophy behind a rest and healing center such as the Asclepeion, which combined healthy living, the origins of medicine and the cult of the gods, led at the time by Galen, were presented in a pleasant and attractive way. It has been one of the best experiences I have had visiting ancient cities.
We did a day tour to Pergamon from Izmi and had a nice time. Our guide Selcuk, was on time, professional, and had good communication skills, In English. He even gave us recommendations for dinner, and it was also a hit. The jaw dropping tour to see Pergamon was very interesting and should not be overlooked. I Definitely recommend this tour operator and guide as they did a fantastic explaining the history. The choice for lunch was Tasty even though the placed was a bit small.
