We booked on to the Sunset Tour whilst we were away on holiday in Letojanni. The booking process was really easy and all of the communication was via email, in English, with staff who were really helpful. We found the company from a map in the hotel. We were picked up from our hotel, and taken via a minibus to the 'base camp' - a vineyard at the base of Etna. There were given walking boots (free of charge), and offered coats etc, before being taken up (in the minibus) to around 1,500m where we walked around two extinct craters of Etna, before going into some ice caves. We returned back to the vineyard, where we were given a light supper of cheese, meats and bread, along with wine from the vineyard. Whilst we were up on the walk, it was really cloudy (the weather can change really quickly), but when we were on our way back the cloud cleared, and we could see Etna erupting whilst we drank wine and ate cheese. It was a truly fabulous experience, and one that was the highlight of our holiday. Nicola our guide was passionate, enthusiastic and extremely knowledgable baout geology, nature, and all things volcanos. He was also a Sicilian national, and was more than happy to also have conversations about growing up in Sicily, their identify, language, and life in Sicily. His English was perfect, and he made us feel really special. We have two boys (13 and 9) and he really engaged with them, was happy to listen to and answer their questions, and made sure they had a great time and were treated respectfully. There were only 6 of us on the tour (Nicola told us they only have smaller numbers) which made for a very personal and special trip. We were also very lucky to be with another lovely couple. All of this made the cost of the tour more than worth it, if you are planning on a trip up Etna, we would highly recommend Etna People.
Brilliant tour with our guide Nicola. He knows the areas like the back of his hand and is so knowledgeable about the mountain, its nature and volcanoes in general. The sandwich was beyond my expectations and the local wine and appetitive was delightful. The hike was not too demanding at all and yet we saw a lot of the smaller pyroclastic eruptions and went into a lava cave Would recommend
Our tour guide, Nic, was so knowledgeable and kind. Great group and we saw Etna erupting!!! Recommend.
Great experience and extremely well accompanied by our French speaking guide. Despite the gloomy weather, he was able to captivate the children with his explanations and his humor! Thanks Roberto!
Sunset tour with EtnaPeople; Tony our guide was excellent - friendly, authentic, informative, credible. We would recognise trip. Jon, UK, julyy2023
From start to finish this tour was worth every penny .. and probably more!! Our guide Nicola was incredibly knowledgeable about Etna, from geology to ecology. He was also entertaining yet with safety in mind. We learnt so much, which you can when it's a small group. The food provided was great, washed down with a lovely Sicilian wine made from grapes that can only be grown on Etna. Absolutely love Etna...she is beautiful and is what makes Sicily 🥰. Lastly a massive thanks to the back office at Etna People 👏🏻. These guys do everything well. Thank you
Tony was great and so passionate about Mount Etna. It was a amazing experience and loved the small tour and personal attention. He even provided jackets and shoes if needed. The cabin where we had sandwiches was such a cute place too.
Yesterday I participated in the sunset trekking on Etna with a nice and close-knit group. Our driver Antonio of a sympathy out of the ordinary attentive to our every need. And Alberto. A FANTASTIC guide in love with what he does transmits it to those around him. Prepared, helpful and of course he too of an unusual sympathy. Icing on the cake we ate at the refuge from where you could enjoy a breathtaking view with a puffing Etna behind. Never better spent money. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
An easy hike that takes around 2 hours, is partly shaded in the woods and therefore not too hot in the mid/late afternoon sun. At the end of the hike you have a delicious glass of Etna wine and a huge plate of antipasti.
Avoid all those tours with the "buttadentro" through the streets of Taormina and choose Etna People now. Why is that? An organization that in a short time through a wonderful guided tour showed me how they really love their land and want to make it appreciated by those who pass there. Not a trivial visit but a mini trip. Applause to our guide Giuseppe super prepared and super helpful, who even in adverse weather conditions was able to better evaluate the times and opportunities to allow us to take advantage of all the scheduled experiences. Good!
