Tromsø : Chasing the Aurora – We Go Where The Lights Appear

Description

I joined Max’s aurora tour last night, and I just want to say how grateful I am for such a wonderful experience. Max is both a geographer and a photographer, and he is incredibly knowledgeable, passionate, and professional. You can truly tell how much he loves what he does, which made the whole tour even more special. I had actually joined another aurora tour the night before, so I could clearly feel the difference. Max’s explanations were engaging and informative, and I learned so much about the science behind the aurora, which made the experience even more fascinating. Before joining the tour, I had already seen many positive comments about Max online. After experiencing the tour myself, I completely understand why so many people recommend him and the tour.
It was an unreal experience, from the scientific explanation to the hospitality whilst camping. The team did everything in there hands to find an aurora even on low season, and they made it happen. 100% would repeat the experience.
It was an incredibly fascinating experience and a great experience! Rafael is a super driver who skillfully gave moose and reindeer the right of way. Max is incredibly dedicated and passionate. He took fantastic photos and both took excellent care of us.
Amazing experience Our guide Max made the tour an amazing experience
A huge thanks to Martin for safely getting us to the destination, Harry for explaining the phenomenon of the northern lights in relatable terms and taking excellent photographs and lastly, but definitely not leastly, the Gods in putting on an excellent celestial display!!
Absolutely fantastic. It didn't hurt that we had amazing viewing of the northern lights, but Harry, our guide was incredible- super knowledgeable, palpable excitement about the hunt and what we were seeing, walked us through the science of the lights and his process for predicting where to go see them. There were 12 of us in a van for 15 (17 including driver and guide), but we did not feel cramped and it was easy to get in and out. The reindeer sausage, cookies, tea and cocoa were all tasty and appreciated. We experienced some incredible lights and Harry was constantly at the ready to take pro photos of the experience (sent to us that night) so we could concentrate on enjoying the lights rather than fiddling with our cameras. Our tour was listed as 6-8 hours - many others listed were as 6 hour or 6-7 hours. I mention this because a noteworthy moment was close to the six hour mark Harry decided to change locations as our then location was starting to get some clouds - it would have been easy to coast to the six hour point and call it a night, but instead Harry stated we should try another location about 30 minutes away - where we arrived just in time for an incredible "substorm" that floored us all. In my mind it really spoke to their dedication to showing you an incredible experience - no clock watching or cutting corners. Also afterwards everyone was dropped off at their hotels, not just the city center or meeting spot. Simply every element was well done and provided for a great time. Highly recommend!!!!

My friend and I booked a tour with you through the Viking Neptune/ or Viator . It was amazing. You mentioned you were a professional photographer and I look forward to seeing and purchasing some of the high resolution pictures from that night. Thanks Harry. Barbara Bluhm Bkbluhm41@gmail.com
I had such an amazing Northern Lights experience! ✨ Our guide Max was incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely passionate, which made the whole adventure even more special. We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights in a beautiful setting — truly magical. On top of that, we enjoyed delicious reindeer sausages, tea, hot chocolate, cookies, and a cozy fire that made everything feel extra warm and welcoming. 🔥 Highly recommend this experience with Northern Horizon — definitely one I won’t forget!
Just the most incredible evening with Harry, he was very very knowledgable about the aurora. Knew the best spot for our chance of spotting them. It didn’t disappoint. We had to be patient, he built a fire, supplied us with sausages, hot chocolate, biscuits and folk stories. We were so so lucky Harry took the best photos for our memories. Not forgetting Bart the driver who got us there and home again safely. An evening that dreams are made of. Thank you x
